Abroad - Price of accommodation and lack of choice near the Eurotunnel

Can you let the forum know the name and address, please. Not least, if it’s any good. I’ll then cross post your words into the accommodation sub-section.

Thanks.

Richard
I’ll see how it is first,I wouldn’t like to suggest somewhere if it turns out shite

AirBnB, 20km from Calais. Small village, my host was the local Gendarme. Kids left and they turned the first floor to BnB. 3 Bedrooms, toilet and a shower room. £36.85. Parking was in front of the house and at the village. Louches.

Second time similar set, but I had the entire house to myself. £39. Bike parked around the back, located in a cul de sac. Audricq

Some have reservations about AirBnB. I stayed with families who were earning a coin. My last stay was with a Senegal family, the husband is a fireman and his son spoke very good English. We played Super Mario and had pizza (on me). £26. Bike parked in the garden. :spl1f:

I pick small villages along my route, I tried now two methods of booking. 1. well in advance and 2. a day before. Both work well, a day before you have to be realistic how quick the host will answer.
Best pick was Chateau de Codignat £87 in the Barbe Blue.

This year I stayed only in AirBnB and paid an average of £36 p/n in 10 different locations. in one place I stayed 5 days paid £30 a night. Host waited for me with goulash, goat cheese and plum brandy :D

Was your happy smiling face pitching up on her doorstep the final nail in the coffin ? 🤔😜

So @rovert57
As several have already mentioned it, have you given any more thought to using one of the very many, far cheaper places on the French side and getting an afternoon or evening crossing? We do the France-UK journey several times a year. Travelling here in France never gives us any stress at all, the UK side is a different matter...so getting all the stressful aspects done on day 1...the journey and the crossing; leaves the rest of the trip pretty much care free.

Used this one a couple of times in the car, it’s dead handy for the tunnel

There’s usually a load of French plod there as they stay there when they’re on migrant bashing missions, there’s a load of insignia in a case at reception
