Hi

Picked up my 2009 1200GS today. Thought I was clever until I tried to decipher the manual..

2 questions please:

1. Is the ABS on when the brake failure flashes when the ignition is turned on? and it should then go off once the wheel rotates and the sensors sense?

2. Is it generally best to leave the ASC activated? I am unlikley to ride off road but read in the new Superberk mag that it's best to turn it off? Is that if you just plan to ride like a tw*t and wheelie it everywhere?

Cheers

2) Why would you ride around with a safety aid turned off, unless of course for the reasons you mention (not that pulling wheelies means you ride like a twat)?
1) RTFM

What does RTFM mean?

Read The Flaming Manual :rtfm

As for the ASC, I don't have it, but it didn't seem a problem when I test rode a demonstator with it on. I'd say, just ride it and see if you notice it.

Of course, it buggers up wheelies, so you'll need it off for those.

Nice!

You're right on both counts.

The ABS sets itself soon after you get rolling. If the winky light thing carries on, you've probably got something not working right.

The off road gods will turn the ASC off for slushing around but for the road you only need to turn it off for serious twatting.

Enjoy the new bike and stick around here. There's usually someone who'll help with queries.

Oh, and the odd, well, different type too.

Indeed. Can only say I've noticed it twice and would have been ok without but you never know.

Show off! (Just 'cause I can't do 'em.)

The ASC and ABS has been brilliant so far this winter, and they have intervened to save my arse on several occasions in slippery conditions.:bow

However, as soon as the road conditions are good, I always switch the ASC to ‘Enduro’ setting (press the ASC button for a couple of seconds till the triangle symbol appliers on the display).

This allows you a bit more freedom to play with wheelies.:augie

Enjoy

As above - if you're on the commute, leave the ASC on. Going out for a ride - turn it off as it spoils all the fun and just generally gets in the way.
