Hi Guys,

I'm still having trouble with the ABS on my 2000 R1100

It went off a couple of weeks ago, and now I've got the generator light and the abs light flashing alternately.

I've tried the ABS reset procedure ( Brown wire, blue trace earth it while holding abs button down ) and it does absolutely nowt, in fact it seems as though the abs button doesn't work at all?

Anyhow what I'm getting to here is that I found this link in the sticky's :-

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/138600-Servo-ABS-problems

And post no 5 gives a list of ABS diagnostic faults, the last fault shown - " Gen AND abs flashing alternately at 1Hz = fluid level in integral abs too low / low voltage" sounds exactly what I've got.

My ( dumb probably! ) question is, how do you check the fluid level in the integral abs??

Is it just a matter of topping up the brake master cylinder or what??

Thanks for any help you can give guys

It's not the generator light, they're both ABS warning lights

If the ABS switch doesn't work then you can't re-set the ABS.

Very common on the 1100 models for the wires to have corroded behind the switch or the internals of the switch to have become corroded..

Simple test to find out.Turn the ignition on and press the switch. If the flashing abs light stops flashing and just stays on the button is working ok.
If it makes no difference to the ABS lights then the switch is fecked.

That is only for the 1150 servo/abs models with their separate fluid reservours. Not at all relevant for the simple 1100 ABS which you have.

The ABS lights on your model are purely electrical problems, nothing to do with the brake fluids at all.

Thanks Saint Steptoe :bow from your description it sound like the switch is fecked!

I'll pull it apart at the weekend and investigate, I had visions of it costing me megabucks for a new abs pump!

Just a quick update here - was discussing the above with my mate today re the possibly knackered ABS switch not enabling me to do a hard reset and he suggested dousing it with WD40 to see if it would do the trick and bring it back to life, so I thought I'd give it a go - nowt to loose, and bugger me if it didn't work!! :D

Gave it a good soaking and worked the switch quite a few times while I was cleaning the bike this afternoon, then switched the ignition on and tried it, it worked this time as the abs light stayed on constant, so I set about doing the hard reset from the diagnostic plug and bingo, back in the game!!

Top result for the price of a squirt of WD, which pleases a tight northern git like me no end !!:D

Thanks again to Steptoe for pointing me in the right direction

Well You better take it off and wash it out well and spray it with ACF50 or rubber renovator spray or just fill the area around with Rubber grease ( as I did on my 1200 3 years ago

OR the WD40 will rot the little rubber diaphragms arounds the switches!!

There aren't rubber diaphragms around the switch on an 1100 abs switch. :D
