speedo cable broken and replaced at the weekend and my abs lights are now flashing. Are they related ? Ive read elsewhere about the speedo and computor getting confused.

The speedo and ABS are not linked since the ABS measures wheel speed with the saw-tooth on the wheel hubs. You've probably dislodged the ABS wire on the the front wheel detector (ie close to where the speedo cable fits to the hub).

I think the speedo is purely mechanical and in no way should affect the abs.

I recently had my speedo cable go. I rode for 20miles before getting a new one. No ABS issues.

I did have to cut a tiewrap to fit the new cable. I suppose it is possible that some of the other wires in this tiewrap could be ABS related. Have you checked that all is intact ? Only little nick in a wire may cause problems. Just an idea.

Barry.

ABS sensor retaining bolt tight? - should be hand tight. Could be it's been loose and you've dislodged the sensor as you've replaced the cable.

Check ABS cap.

Could just be coincidence and have nowt to do with your cable.

Qué?

Err. Coz it said 0mph.

Only the FI F650's get the speedo signal from the ABS pole wheel AND they are still 10% out:doh

Flashing lights usually mean low voltage, but in this case check the air gap and sensor position. An ABS sensor is just an inductive coil, so if in doubt check for a resistance, then spin the wheel and see if you get a nice steady AC voltage at a steady speed. Check the air gap and battery first as the wiring is a PITA to get at.

Feeler Gauge

There is an ABS feeler gauge in the toolkit, the gap is critical.

i had the same problem after removing the front wheel to replace a warpd disk i reset the abs by removing and refitig the fuse this cured the problem

Ah ha

Finally I get an answer to a problem I had earlier in the year. Removed wheels for tyre change and banged the black sensor on the rear . Wheels duly refitted and ABS lights come on. Read the resetting blurb that is on the web but that is for a 1100 not a 1150 and didn't work. Also 1150 supposed to be self resetting. Went to dealer expecting to pay for new battery (it was Ok by my voltage metre). They said 'Doesn't sound like a battery prob, bring it in - bosh, bosh done. Reset of ABS

So all I needed to do apparently was remove the damn fuse.

Thanks
