Thursday out riding my '04, 20k, I notice the ABS triangle on steady, brake warning at 1Hz. Stop, switch off, switch on, resets, ok, off we go. Few hundred metres and lights come on again. Then I notice (as I carry on because the brakes and servos working ok) that the Speedo is flicking around. Later the speedo stops altogether. Spend the night on UKGSer and get frightened that my final drive is on its way out.

Yesterday (I was on my way to CW anyway, spooky) I notice that the speedo (still at zero) starts to read when I accelerate in 6th (not 5th or any other), goes to zero again on down-throttling. So about 10 miles of fun with that.

Get to CW and they get it straight on the 'puter (all credit to them it was almost like pulling into the pits at a race) and a final drive sensor is diagnosed. That replaced, the fault is still there (great these computers, aren't they!). Tank off, check all (yes, all) the connections and spray them with 'stuff' and put the bike together, hey presto the 'puter says ok. Road test 6-7 miles all ok. Ride home (40 miles) ok. Two hours labour.

Road tested the '08 model while I was at CW. Liked the tyre sensors. Handlebars seemed wider than mine. Couldn't figure the difference when switching between ESA modes. Liked the OAT gauge. Nicer styling than mine. Otherwise, I was quite happy to get back on mine and it didn't feel old, worn out, dirty; just the same, great bike. Also took the RT out, with the heated seat. Really liked that seat!
