Hi guys, well at long last I have a 1150, wanted one ever since I hired one in Alaska. Only problem is that I don't have an owners manual so I am hoping you guys can help me. I only get to ride once every few weeks due to work and today I jumped on the bike for a ride and got flashing ABS lights. I rode a little to see what would happen and it felt fine, stopped well enough but still flashed so I came home not wanting to tempt fate. Does anybody have any ideas as to what it could be ? I did stop on the way home and when I turned on the engine the lights went out.

Hi Grez, and welcome.

I am no expert on this but know enough to tell you what's wrong.

The ABS system needs to arm itself - that's the strange noise you hear when you set off. It needs a certain battery voltage in order to arm, and if it doesn't arm, the warning lights flash. If they do not arm at once, they will not arm until you turn off the ignition and start her up again. Starting the bike drains the battery so, if the ABS doesn't arm after the second attempt, it isn't going to until you ride some distance.

The problem in your case is probably due to your infrequent riding. RIDE YOUR BIKE MORE! Alternatively, buy a trickle charger.

Use the search function on this site (one of the tabs at the top) to search for threads about batteries, abs, chargers etc and you will find a wealth of information.

Cheers

Thanks Glynn, I would ride more but need to take the Landrover to work so riding time is very limited. I can't use a trickle charge as the bike is not in a garage so I guess I will just ride a few miles to charge the battery then turn off and on again. Now if I could ever decide on the best luggage system I might get to take it on holiday
