ABS lights

On occasions my red triangle warning light stays on along with my ABS light, it is intermittent and when I had it booked into SPC they said the light had to be on for them to diagnose the fault! Vines on the other hand have told me if the bike had a problem with the ABS the computer would store the problem intermittent or not!! Who is right?
On another issue, yes I know i'm a plank!! I rode from the south of France to about 100 miles from Caen thinking I had a major problem with my servo, the brakes basically didn't work I had to plan roundabouts very carefully. Not only did my servo not work but my brake light was on! Problem was simple to solve once I spotted it. Anyone got any ideas?

Brake light on would indicate that either the rear brake pedal was depressed or the front lever was rubbing on the inside of the hand guard (a common issue , especially if you've knocked it at some point).

The red triangle on indicates a brake fault naturally... and the vehicle failed to finish it's start up checks, typically because pressure was being applied to one or other brake lever.

Stop the bike and turn off the ignition, check there is not pressure on the rear pedal, and then push the brake lever forwards into the guard, it should move a little forwards. Restart the bike making sure you haven't touched anything. Gently apply the front brake and you should hear the servo kick in... the red triangle will stay lit until you reach a speed above 10mph (I think). If it doesn't clear, just check you haven't turned off the ABS (i think there is a specific sequence for that).

Your servo should still work with the ABS turned off, so you should still hear the servo motors whirring.

Here's the killer... if you know there is no pressure on the levers, and you can't hear the servo's, and you can't stop at all well, and the red triangle is still lit, your bike will need a new bit... I should know... mine did... and it had a list of fault codes as long as my arm by all accounts.

The servo had failed in such away as to allow zero pressure to the front, and about 10 times as normal to the rear. Took me a while to ride to Allan Jeffries I can tell you... They fixed it for me even though Williams is my local dealer, and Rainbow sold it to me in the first place... they just happened to be closest when it failed.

yep happened to me, - even got brake fluid all over my hands looking for the problem, - phoned up the dealer, - workshop was busy, - and the sales guy knew straight away (must be very common if they can fix it) what the problem was. What a plonker. Wahetevr happened to the old wire cable that would freeze solid in the winter, - you knew where you were with cables
