My bike is sold, the move to Aus is imminent, and as Jan says I can have a new one its time to wire a deposit to Adelaide.

Black Adventure with a choice of ABS & Servo or Non ABS.

So if I chose ABS can it be switched off and if so is the servo still active?

I fancy a bit of "off road" so I am leaning towards a Non ABS bike. I have never had ABS so won't miss it.

Having looked at all the issues with the ABS/Servo system on the 1150 & 1200 is my thinking sound?

If you go for ABS, it is switch off 'n onable so no problem if you want to go offroad - don't know for sure but my guess is that the servo remains active, someone will confirm this - so 2 questions remain:

First - do you think ABS in necessary/desirable on a bike?

And if you do, then second: does it work?

Have a read through this thread.

My own personal take on it is that the benefits do not outweigh the drawbacks - and prefer to keep my braking skills tippety top and rely on those instead - brake failures, extra weight, expense and complexity etc just make the whole thing a step too far for me (I've also never had a bike with ABS, Servo or linked brakes, so I certainly don't miss it). There's plenty of others on the board who have equally valid reasons for disagreeing with me - so there's no correct answer!

I don't know about the 1200 but try pushing a servo-equipped 1150 Adventure around with the ignition off and try the brakes. Then decide if you are comfortable with the available braking effort. I wasn't, so I ordered mine without the ABS/Servo.

The servo/ABS brakes work just fine on my 1150, but there are too many " what if's " for my liking. If you have had a few 'bikes, and have always been happy with standard brakes, then I would say don't bother with the over complex servo/ABS system. I wouldn't buy a 'bike with it again.

IIRC the Australian spec Adv comes with Fog Lights as standard (unless that's changed)...

Mike:)

ps They're crap :P
