ABS switchable?

Hi

About to buy a 800gs and was wondering if they have always had switchable ABS? There is some mention of "ABS II with rider-selectable defeat" - not sure when this was standard?

Can only speak on behalf of 2008 and newer but my F800GS has switchable ABS, either on or off by a touch of a button. Hope this helps.

Yep ABS on my f8 is switchable. It recommends in the manual to turn it off if doing any off-roading.

When you are offroad with the R1200GS you have to switch off the ignition when you stop the engine, otherwise the draw from the headlight will flatten the engine (twice I've been with people--yes, Devon and Nina!--who've had a flat battery offroading on 1200s).

The problem with switching off the ignition on the 1200GS is that you have to remember to switch off the ABS again when you restart the engine.

The F650/800GS has more advanced electrics and the headlight automatically cuts out when the engine stops running, so for short stops there's no need to switch the ignition off, and thus no need to switch off the ABS again when you restart.

flashing Red ABS light

I thought ABS is an optional extra that has remained the same from start to now on F650 /F800 as in :Optional extra: BMW Motorrad ABS (can be switched off)

having an auto on as in every time you start the engine the ABS red light flashes indicating all is OK and when you move off the red light goes out which indicates the ABS is on.
Where as to swith off the ABS during a Run or prior to moving off the engine has to be stopped and restarted, to get the the above mentioned flashing red light at which point you press the ABS Button and the light remains solid red indicating ABS is now OFF so forth etc etc.

Voila switchable ABS on the F650 / F800
