Friend of mine took his wheels off for new tyres and after putting them back on - he says his ABS & traction control lights won't go off. He then reported his cruise control wasn't working either.

I could only think of two things off the top of my head - upset the front ABS sensor or put the wheels in the wrong way (if even possible?) with the ABS ring on the wrong side.

He says they are both all good. Any ideas to look anywhere else?

He did have it serviced a couple of days before (taken by van) and has since been having issues with keyless ignition. It's going back to the dealer for this - could it be related?

TIA :blagblah :nenau :thumb2

Cruise could be a switchgear fault. BMW have replace thousands of the cheap switches. I've had 3 water-logged models and everyone had bad them replaced.

If the wheel's in the right way round, I'd guess he's damaged the ABS sensor, which all the systems will be using. It's supposed to be removed before removing the wheel.

Turns out he's lost the spacer and so when it's gone back together, the ABS sensor has been rubber by the ABS ring.

Fitted the spacer from my bike, but appears sensor may be knackered. Will try fitting my sensor to his bike (if I can get the bloody thing out with the plug behind the radiator). Assuming that it doesn't need setting up with the bike at all, just plug and play?

New sensor doesn't look cheap - $150+ other side of the pond.

Read up that a fault likely needs to be cleared using the "BMW diagnostic tester". Maybe the sensor isn't broken afterall...

Any way to do this without stumping up at the dealer?
