Have you got a bike(any bike) with ABS. would you say its ever saved your life or stopped you doing serious damage to you/bike/other property/other people. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who rides differently BECAUSE of ABS.

Truthfully have to admit that in the short time i have had my F800GS the ABS has saved me, but only the once. Therefore it may well have paid for itself already.......

I'm trying to do a poll as to how many people have had their lives saved by ABS or nasty situations avoided, and Im only talking about bikes here.
On the other side of the coin are there any situations where ABS is a pain in the ass,or positively dangerous (Thinking about snow riding, and SOME off road situations here)

I'm also wondering if anyone here has got off an ABS equipped bike and jumped straight on a non ABS bike and ridden it the same way, and wondered how their accident happened or didnt...

I've had 2-3 instances where ABS put my life in danger when it kicked in

It increased my stopping distance by releasing the brakes and projecting me nearer the object (car) that I was trying to avoid

On another occasion - hot sunny Italy - I applied the brakes in a line of slow moving traffic and unknown to me, the road surface was like glass and the ABS kicked in and I shot forward and had to take evasive action to avoid the stationary car in front and the one alongside

The ABS stopped me bouncing off the back of a car that decided to stop dead without warning as i was keeping an eye on the car behind me...I had to hoik the bars around to overshoot his rear bumper by about 1 foot. No ABS would have left me with a trashed front end.

I don't ride any differently having the knowledge that I am armed with ABS though. I don't see it as giving me an excuse to push further that I should.

ABS in snow?...Feckin useless (in a car anyway, never had the pleasure on me bike).

Used ABS once big time on a wet roundabout with a near SMIDSY and it worked (Courtesy bike) If I had been on the HP2 I know I would have had a real problem. Would I buy it? Nope.

Saved me twice and gave me a severe dose of scared once

That's why my non switchable ABS is NOW switchable on the move! The only criteria is getting a hand off the bar to flick the switch

I've got it, but I ride to try not to use it. Leave space appropriate to your speed between you and the next thing you'll hit and the ABS never comes on. :rob

The ABS has kicked in a couple of times braking on wet, slippery surfaces but I don't think on either occasion I would have have crashed.
But there again, I've got ABS so I can't be certain:nenau
