Does the R1200GS come with ABS as standard, or is that extra ?

2004 models came standard equipped with ABS (pannier holders and brush-guards), but 2005 models have ABS as optional extra...

AFAIK.. or something :)

so how much is the ABS, and is it worth it for someone who's never had ABS in 25 years biking ?

I've never had ABS on a bike before but doesn't have to save your skin just once for it to be worth it? If you don't like it you can always turn it off using the switch on the handlebars.

Not too sure of the price but I'm sure it will make the bike easier to sell in the future.

There's a thread somewhere that states what the prices, are search and you'll find. I'm too lazy :P

I like the ABS, it allows me to doze a bit more, or rather it might save me once if I doze a bit... I also like it for the techno-factor... Don't forget that a non-ABS bike will fetch less when you come to sell it...

End of the day, it's up to you.

I've got ABS on my 12 and had it on my 6.5 - I reckon it saved my life once and from trashing the bike 2 or 3 times.

But it also cost £795 LESS in the first place.

Had GS's with ABS, no ABS, Servo ABS and now going back to no ABS.......by choice......

No drama either with or without.

Would it stop you buying a Jap bike, if you fancied it and they didn't make it with ABS.............Nah........ thought not !!!

If you haven't done it yet, do get the software updated - 'Because you're worth it' "

What's this software ugrade and what does it do?

As I got mine fer nowt that's why I'm not riding Jap iron...
.......the ABS not the bike..........

It's the latest Microsorft ;) Service Pack...

Naah, seriously, it's the engine management software update, if you do a search, you'll find several threads about the fuel injection quirkieness...

The update (along with balanced carbs), smooths out the power peak at 5000rpm, and minimizes the power surge most noticeable when engine braking in 3rd gear from about 3000 rpm, and when approaching, ca 2000rpms you get an extra push of sudden power...

It wouldnt stop me from buying a bike if it didnt have abs but seeing as its available for the GS then i think its worth it if its giving you a choice,it saved me on the demo bike i tried although havnt needed it on mine (yet).I know several people who have lost or nearly lost control of their bike because its all locked up.
