Absolutely nothing has gone wrong!

With all the doom email about WCs falling apart I thought I would add some balance. Over the last 10 days we have taken 6 GS WC TEs across from Zimbabwe to the Namib coast via all sorts of detours....about 2000 miles in all. About half of this has been on gravel roads....with allot of washboard surface. We haven't hung around either. Try driving these roads in a car and bits soon start falling off. Temperatures up to 38C.

One bike had 22k Km on on the clock, the others brand new. All totally standard...no bits of Touratech stuff, no rad guards nothing.

Other than close encounters with the wildlife (Elephants crossing the road etc) we have not had a single problem with the bikes.....infact, in enduro mode on the gravel they have been brilliant. Long days in e sadle, much dust and grit and start on the button.....what a bike.
 
I spose as they have sold a few now some are bound to keep going for a while :D I heard one of them got to the south of France and back under it's on power a few weeks ago, amazing:D

To be fair though...they are only doing what they are supposed to do. 6 GS's covering 2000 miles should not be considered an achievement but should be exactly as expected and not "Whoopy, crash the cymbals, bang the drums our bikes didn't blow up". Low expectations I feel.

It's a little like saying "I went out today and didn't stab one person!". You're not bloody supposed to! That's not an achievement. :D
 
Come on guys.

Everything ever manufactured would expect a certain failure rate - maybe 2% maybe 5% but anyway some will fail.

these are commonly known as the Friday afternoon bikes

Perhaps this is the complete inverse

i.e. there must be one or two out there that will be absolutely perfect.

This is probably one of those. Built on a Friday
 
Mine was a tuesday build and has yet to break down :eek: i must be unlucky as I don't have much to moan about :blast

Your trip sounds amazing, I have just done a 3000 mile trip which did include 15km of gravel in the Triglovski national park in Slovenia and we came out the other side with two fully functioning GS's :eek:

I had absolutely no need to call bmw assist so I'm quite upset about that :eek: :D

I even fixed a puncture by the roadside :clap :D

mine must have been built on a monday then ……….:blagblah its been faultless so far …….so glad i rejected my RT lc and joined you GSA men
 
My 2014 GSA has not had any issues/recalls or any thing else - just as things should be :thumb
 
And I bet all of you will take out an extended warranty...if you still own the bike.

Completely agree....that was the point of the post....the GS doing what it is supposed to do and doing it very well. To be fair to it, we did do some fairly horrendous gravel roads that we shaking cars to bits which caused not problems for the bike....also encountered quite a bit of sand (my personal favourite.....not!) which they coped with very well considering we had OEM tyres.

Yep, the trip has been awesome....Namibia is such a beautiful place....2.5 million people and the size of France. Still in Capetown, when I get back and sort the photos/video I will post in the travel section. I will also do a kit review...most of which has done really well....with a special mention for my Klim F4 helmet....fantastic bit of kit.

My LC is now on 18k not missed a beat. I've had about 15 bm's . Best so far.
