ABUS Combiflex wire lock

just bought one of these to secure my lid to my bike on my upcoming ferry trip. Great idea and seems like a good piece of secure kit. No keys, just easy to set combination lock. Sure, it can be cut through with good wire cutters but on a ferry where you want to leave your lid on your bike so its doesn't fall off and also a bit of security this seems like a good idea. Form me I bought the one with the 105cm wire for EURO 18.00. Apologies if this is old hat to most on here but I found it a useful piece of kit.

Good for jackets too - thread through a sleeve.

Alternative for helmets only is hiplok Z lock combo. https://hiplok.com/products/hiplok-z-lok-combo Available Amazon and other places at discounted prices. I’d like to think this a tad more secure than the cable locks. But who knows

I use one of those all the time Grant.

But only as you say, at times when you want light security, ie Ferry, parked up at The Ace cafe - pleaces where someone could just walk off with your unattended lid

Great bit of kit and ideal for jackets too

My wife uses one on her skis when she leaves them outside of the cafe @ coffee break on the slopes.

Thieves pinching your skis are a rising problem it seems, and our house insurers wouldn’t cover them unless they’re locked to something solid.

i have the lock on the left, well one very similar.

much prefer this Abus wire lock though, very compact

The useful thing about the locks is that they are easy and reliable to use, therefore they are more likely to be used. Anything fiddly, soon gets lobbed into the box of useless tat.

Will they survive a thief with simple side cutters? No. But an unsecured helmet or whatever abandoned to chance, does not require even side cutters to remove; a simple lift and it’s gone.

Grant, I have one of the ABUS units that you highlight, using it for train journeys, looping suitcases together or to the overhead rail.

(It took a theft of my case last year on a train between Amsterdam-Lille, to catch-on!)

I do the same with bags, sitting in an open topped vehicle, looped to a seat rail or support.
