acceptable rear wheel bearing play?

I am looking to buy an 1150GS and have had a look at a couple and they all seem to have (minor) play in the rear wheel bearings? Is a small ammount of movement acceptable or have I just been unlucky to look at a few with the same problem?

I am checking by someone putting weight over the front to get the rear wheel off the ground then pushing left hand /pulling right hand holding the wheel at 3oclock and 9 oclock. In every one I can fell a minor ammount of latteral movement (almost imperceptable but there none the less)

Is this what they are all like? Am I worrying about FD bearings when it just the way they are?

Please advise as I am getting a bit disheartened in my search!

Get someone to rest their foot on the rear brake

and lock the pads against the disc then wiggle it

If it moves its the pivot bearings and they can be adjusted or replaced "reasonably" easy

If it disappears it's the main bearing again No rocket science required for a change

If you have any doubts buy thru a dealer and get a warranty

If there's no rumble when you turn the wheel it'll be the paralever bearings (very common, a high percentage of bikes have a small amout of play) .

No big deal, they can usually be adjusted.
