Access to battery terminals 1150GS

That’s exactly how it works, and I had a weird experience l when I went to refuel a while ago. Battery had been charged, I thought, but the bike gave all the indications of a flat battery when I wanted to leave the forecourt. As luck would have it, a motorway recovery guy was using the car wash and had his jump pack in his van. It literally took 30secs to get the pack into place and fire it up which he was astounded by. He’d never seen a bike so easy to start…
handy to know i looked at my 2005 gsa and its there on the bike and i didn,t know, i always carry a jump pack in the top box with my puncture repair kits
so thats great to know

can i ask how that works, i guess if you have a jump pack you put the positive cable on that silver bolt thats showing then the negative lead to a earth somewhere and thats how you jump the bike

rob
Exactly.

I tend to use that large allen-bolt at the bottom-left of the photo as the negative.

The adaptor simply fits onto the positive terminal on the starter-motor - allowing you to access that high-voltage positive terminal without removing the cover.

I fitted GSA engine bars years ago and, being stainless, they give a pretty good negative earth. Again, the recovery guy was impressed as he just clamped onto the left engine bar.

ok, you can use the neg clamp off the charger on the engine bars that are stainless didn,t know that its ok using stainless as a earth is it, is the black frame ok as well even tho its painted

I fitted the BMW jump-node to a 2003 Ed80 Rockster last year - drilling the cover was fine.

All these years I’ve had GS’s and I never knew such a thing existed. Where can I get one ?

Your local BMW dealer can order the parts for you
I would suggest Martin @ Barrie Robson’s York

Part numbers in the diagram above in post 14
Parts 3 and 8/9/10 in diagram

Shouldn’t be too expensive

The 4 parts should cost about £23:

You may even get them cheaper as a kit but I don’t have a number for that. Motorworks is an alternative option.

GSA stainless bars are unpainted so electrical conductivity is very good. Painted bars won’t be the same.

Hold it up with a block of wood or whatever.
After a year or so of 11XX ownership the answer is -

Locate that piece of wood you keep by your toolbox that's just the right size for propping your tank up, and insert it.. :D

I agree with the above though, the kit approach is very neat indeed and a proper solution.

The factory fitted jump starter kit has a second identical jump starter post used as an earth which is attached to the cylinder head near the inlet tube

See here….

There’s a second factory option that fits direct to the battery so no need for drilling starter motor covers and ideal for RT and RS models ..

Just got my kit for this. Any fitting instructions around or is it just good old YouTube?
Remove cover
Drill hole
Fit bracket
Fit cover.

(In a nutshell)

Tbh, getting the hole in the right place is fiddly, but it does need to be as accurate as possible if you want it to be neat.

Also, take your time with mounting the bracket, iirc i couldn't figure out which way went until I'd tried it a few times.
