I got my LC at the beginning of April here in Germany. It was delivered with the vario panniers, but they did not have the large tankbag that I had also ordered.

Was told it would be May. Came and went and I have been told this:
they (and by "they" I mean the whole of BMW Motorrad in Germany) got 1000 pieces in May. My dealer (the main one in Cologne) got none! Next delivery is in June (date unspecified) when there will be another 500 in Germany.

Also ordered the rain panel thingies and engine bars a month ago: they only have 2 of the three parts (the panels themselves, but not the fixings) and have no idea when they can expect the engine bars.

BMW have really lost the plot on this: they were happy to take my money when I got my new bike, but seem to just expect people to wait patiently.

Is it really the end of the world though? :blast

You sound like a 5 year old:tears

Just ride and enjoy the bike!!!! They will turn up at some point.

You'd think the Chinese could make the bits quicker than they have so far! :nenau

Must be bleeding frustrating though.

Sorry to upset you. I was not aware that I was spitting out my dummy. But I accept the slap on the wrists from a '"better".

I'd count yourself lucky you got your Varios as there is over 400 on back order over here :augie
Guess I was lucky. Got everything delivered on the bike early march, panniers, top box, crash bars and took a bit of doing but got the liners as well.

I'm still waiting for engine bars and Akrapovic can. But so what? They'll come in due course. Bike is still fabulous. And much much better than any other BMW vehicle ever produced ;-)

BMW now issue their dealers with a sheet listing all the accessories and there likely lead times.

In Cologne, the main dealer has not watercooled GS's in the showroom, other than one demonstrator. They are currently quoting mid/late July delivery on the bikes and not giving any promises on the accessories!

"BMW HAVE REALLY LOST THE PLOT ON THIS ONE"

A slight over-reaction because a few bits of old tat haven't turned up yet :augie

The point I was making, or trying to make, was that BMW have clearly underestimated the demand for the various accessories. Either that, or the container was put on the wrong/slow ship from China! The proiblem is clearly exacerated by the fact that the bits are all LC specific, which means that buyers could not move bits from their previous GS's.

For me, the lack of a tank bag is a real pain in the butt. I do not like wearing a rucksack when I ride and I don't like having panniers on unless I have to. And the lack of a tank bag means there is nowhere for a map: I have a NavIV, but still like to have a map of the region I am in open in front of me for a general feel for where I am. And I had not realised how heavy my security chain is until I have had it in a rucksack!!

So, yes, some accessories are bling (and perhaps even "tat", as you put it), but the big-biy in us all always has a desire to have their new toy looking just right. But some accessories are NOT bling, they are important, be it the tank bag or the mudguard extending panels to keep all the shit coming off the back wheel off the back of your legs.

But it is NOT spoiling my enjoyment. I still feel it is a bloody great bike and I still enjoy it every time I ride it.

I ordered the large tank bag from Coopers Tunbridge Wells two weeks ago and picked it up a week later.

I can understand the frustration.

You want your bike to come with these bits on, and they simply haven't got enough of them.

This isn't a new story though.
When I bought my 1150 GS in 2002, I remember that several extras were back order at the time. Panniers, hand guards and head protectors I think.
I was lucky, I bought a 4 month old bike that had them already fitted, but they were quoting a several months for some of the parts - which would have hacked me off, as I specifically went for the GS so I could go touring.

BMW will hopefully get their act in gear soon ( I hope the bits I've ordered to go on my bike will all be there)

I was lucky and got what I wanted at pick-up, but I can sympathise - it's a bit frustrating not getting what you want at any time and it is a really big mistake for BMW to put so much money into launching the bike, generating the hype and excitement and then not having the accessories ready to go and risk pissing off customers at the point of purchase.

And after all, the extras they sell must be worth a fortune to the company. However no point in getting hot and bothered - and apart from the Varios other products are starting to come out now so might be worth a look.

Enjoy your new bike anyway:thumb2

Why not just delay the arrival of your new bike until the dealer has all the added bling in stock?

Everyone wins.

  • You hang on to your hard earned until everything is ready.

  • The dealer knows they still have a sale.... and may even pull their digit out a bit as they want your full cash, which you are hanging onto.

  • It avoids bleating, crying and tantrums.

Delete or alter all or any of the above if, "But, I want it now, mummy!" must always apply.

Oh Daddy stop being so grown up .... :blast

I have seven sleeps before my bike arrives Trixie, but (of course) I could never bring myself to actually post 'only seven sleeps...' for fear of sounding utterly infantile and ridiculous ...

(because Trixie .... I'm all man ... :D)
