Accessory socket not powering down

Has anyone encountered this? I used the accesory socket for the first time over the weekend, running wrap-around heated grips for the grab rails to keep the pillion's hands warm.

After I turned the bike off, I expected the accessory socket to power down after a few seconds, but this didn't happen. I have a Touratech TPS-15, and ran the signal wire to the accessory socket power lead, so perhaps this is an issue. My GPS didn't power down either, as the TPS-15 was still receiving a signal.

Fortunately I noticed the problem so didn't drain the battery, but I'm concerned that sooner or later I will forget to check and come back to a dead bike.

Any ideas?

My understanding is that with no current drain the socket powers down after 15 secounds or so - at the same time as the hazard light on the bars goes off.

If, however, there is current being drawn then the socket will not power down.

I'm sure somebody will be along soon to correct me :D

From my observations, if there's a significant power drain from the socket it will power off after about 10 minutes. If there's little or no power drain, it's more like 30 seconds. Slightly annoyingly, my GPSR doesn't draw enough power to trigger the longer time, nor does my Gameboy Advance charger :D

time delay

there is a time delay before it powers down. When i switch ignition off the sat nav and the ipod keep working for a short time. Maybe a minute or so. No problem encountered

Supposed to power off in 15 minutes when there is a load. See page 93 in the manual.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I will take a look this weekend and satisfy myself that the socket will power down eventually and won't drain the battery.

I know the answer to this ...

I had the similar issue in the past and basically it boils down to this:

If you have an accessory with an internal battery, your BM thinks you are topping up the bike's battery via the accessory socket so it doesn't cut the circuit.
See the one of the earlier threads about this:
