My R1200GS seems to have an accessory socket that is not working how it should be. It's working OK, but not how the manual says it should.

1) For charging - I have the BMW charger, by the way - it doesn't matter how long the bike has been standing with the ignition turned off, plug the charger in and it charges and maintains the battery. No need to plug the charger in within so many seconds of turning the ignition off.

2) Yesterday, I plugged in my heated jacket. It worked OK with the ignition on but the engine not running. Started the engine - the jacket then wasn't working. After a few minutes of the engine running, plugged the jacket in again and it worked.

Seems a bit hit and miss to me. Ideas?

Sounds to me like the electronics are just doing their job.

I can easily understand your second point about it switching off when engine starting (it needs as much juice as possible to get the engine going..)

As for the first point, I dont know. I thought that it automatically switches off after 15 mins from point of engine turn off?

(1) Mine does just the same. Nothing to worry about.

When you turn on the ignition, the aux. sockets are supplied with power. The jacket will heat but eventualy you will flatten the battery.

When you hit the starter button the bike switches all its available power to the process of firing up the bike. In doing so it cuts the power to the aux. socket, so the jacket will not work. Those with sat. nav. wired into the aux. socket may well see this effect in action most clearly.

On firing up, the power is quickly restored to the aux. socket. Jacket heats up.
