we will be travelling some of the WAW last week July/first week of August.

Roughly 50% of the time we will be staying with friends or relatives so we've decided to forgo the camping gear and stay in lodgings. I have done a little research and it appears that hotels are around the £100 per night mark whilst B&Bs are around £50. We don't want to book anything, so we can stay flexible, but is it likely that reasonably priced accommodation will be all booked and we'll end up staying in the penthouse suite :blast or do you think it will be possible to find places as we go.

Thanks for any info

Like everything, 'it depends', on where you are and whether there's a local do going on. Lots of blues festivals, comedy things, concerts going on in various places.

In general I'd say you'll be ok outside of the major cities, not that there are many on the WAW. The B&B system is also very good at fitting you in somewhere if the place you rock up to are full. It's a stunning route, you'll have a great time!

depends on f all

I have travelled the length and breath of this Isle of Ours , and Never once was i stuck .
admittedly , i did have to stay outside of Town on one Occasion .
Go with the Flow , theres a bed and a welcome here for you .
Relax , enjoy. Theres more B&Bs all along the Waw than you could shake a stick at.

Shameless plug alert: sadly, we're not there at the mo, but normally GSers would get a warm welcome from us at Johnny Paddy's. We're about 10km from Miltown Malbay (Co. Clare) and always good for a lift into the pub. Just sayin' :thumby:

There should be room in the inn, if you are flexible, however this is the time of the Galway Race week and it is around the August bank holiday.
There seems to be a lot more of coaches around, they take up spaces in the more reasonable places.
i.e. the 'new' NOX hotel in GWY has now serveral coaches parked outside.
I found that the booked out b&b owners always find you another spot.

last but not least, check out hostels, some aren't too bad for a night.

bon voyage

Thanks for all the replies and assurances. Luckily my wife's uncle lives the Connemara side of Galway so we're ok there and we have a friends in Clonakilty and Killarney - apart from that we should be off the beaten track.

Only 2 weeks to go :aidan
