Looking for reasonable accomodation for our first night in Morocco. We will be arriving about midday so not to far down and not to much of a culture shock, First time for all of us. Also do we need to prebook or can we find a city and just ride to the center and fide a hotel ?

Not sure where you'll be hoping to spend your first night, but apart from
Demnate we were well happy with the places we stayed and never booked
ahead.:thumb2

Don't stay in Demnate.:rob

Depends on where you are arriving and which way you want to go. Larach is easily reached from either Ceuta or Tangier. Hotel Espana is a good bet. All night parking attendants on the street.

Inland Chefchaouen has lots of hotels including the upmarket Hotel Parador de Chaouen and the more modest Pension Pension Abie Khancha and Hotel Bab El Ain.

I've never pre-booked in Morocco and only got stuck once because the king was visiting.

See also the excellent thread on Morocco. Plenty of recommendations there. See also Lonely Planet and Rough Guide.

Great country. Enjoy it.:thumb:thumb

Depending on where you want to get to the first day - we stayed at the Hotel Paris in Tetouan our first night, secure car park and close to the centre which was a good introduction to Morocco. As has been said, Lonely Planet Guide recommended - we kept with the mid-range ones and were generally fine. No need to book ahead even in August we never had a problem. Driving round some of the city centres can be 'interesting' but I just ripped the city plan out of the guide and followed that, also nearly everyone we asked was very helpful. Have a damn fine trip! :thumb

Seconded :thumb2

Hotel Espana is great, get a room over the square. Larech was in Spanish controlled Morroco and as such is a good first stop as it's not too much of a cultural shock.

Chefchaouen is really lovely in a beautiful setting and more 'Morrocan'.

I would say that Tetouan is a place to be avoided, keep left on the ring road and press on to Chefchouen as others have suggested:thumb

Cheers guys
