Accomodation recommendations in Verdun & Annecy/Albertville or Bourg St Maurice

Just sketching out the 'bare bones' of a route and looking for family B&B or standard class hotels in the above areas, for a party of 6 blokes

No chain hotels please, we would rather have individual family hotels with a bit of traditional French charm that do B&B and maybe evening meal or perhaps a good restaurant in walking distance, some decent bike parking and serves a good bier

Recommendations, if you please
 
Verdin, for all its significance in French history, is remarkably short of hotels.

Annecy on the other hand has loads.

Ok Richard, I thought that about Verdun, when I passed through - mainly upmarket stuff too


We have 3 nights and 4 days to reach the Italian Alps

Zeebrugge to Verdun is about 200 ish, my preference is to crack onto to Plombieres and get 375 miles cracked off and then get to the Albertville to Bourg area and pitch up for 2 mights in that area maybe near the Cormet de Roseland and then explore the French Alps for a couple of days, before heading over to the Italian Alps

However the others might prefer 3x 200 mile stints to explore the areas ridden through
 
If the guys want something at about 200 miles, have a look at anything along the line Charleville-Mez to Thionville.

Charleville is an OK town with lots of choice and the border with Luxembourg / Belgium should throw up something.

If you are heading to Annecy, you could always go west a bit, sort Reims, Chalons-s-Marne sort of way. Plenty of good roads to take you downwards, too.

Great place, good prices, not in the town, but there is a decent restaurant and Kebab / Fast food joint nearby, or if the weather is good you can fire up their BBQ and grab some stuff to burn from the local Supermarche.

We stayed just outside BSM a couple of years ago and found this place good value

Thanks for the suggestions so far :)

I was asking for stopover possibilities before getting the maps out

I liked the look of Nutty's stopover last week at Plombieres les Bains & I'm trying to string something together to incorporate it maybe

However there are some good areas all the way down Eastern France which make the choices even harder

Not far from the Loire Valley .....Well worth a check out and a look , may suit your needs.

If you think that Landivy (or Brittany / Normandy / Loire) is in the east of France...... I suggest you are looking at a Mediaeval map or you have the Michelin upside down.

Good for Le Mans though, so thanks for posting.

Thanks, but as my learned friend says ...............it's nowhere near Eastern France (we live in Yorkshire and thus use Zeebrugge port)

Will bookmark for future reference though:thumb

Never been before, but have to say - that it never occurs to me to ask for recommendations.

Part of the fun - is sifting through all the options, checking out Google earth/streetview - and making a decision. :rob

Had a couple of busts over the years, but also found some gems.

Me neither usually, especially if travelling alone or in a smaller group

However we're a party of 6 and some will want singles, so some smaller places may struggle to accomodate us in July

So I thought once I had a rough idea of a route in my head, I would cast the net, then plan via the maps to seek out actual distances on real roads, to see if it's achievable on a daily basis
 
Something jogs my memory about staying at the oddly named Pelican in Charlle-M at some point.

I can't find anything in my assorted lists of hotels to tell me when, so it's quite possible I heard about it somewhere.

Either way, it loos OK and may suit.

JB makes a good point about booking when you have a largish group, particularly as many private hotels are not littered with rooms. Winging it on your own or with a couple of mates is great, until that is you can't all get a bed. It also gives the group a common aiming point should you all split up for the day.
