Working away on my acer laptop suddenly the whole thing goes off to a white screen, does anyone know why this happens? It's less than 12 months old, I then have to hold the on switch down to switch it off, then restart it in safe mode. Please help!:confused:

Take it back its still under warranty, don't worry about it. Backup first...

BTW my Acer is 5 and a half years old... Best machine I ever bought, including my Mac

Overheating. Has it been used in dusty conditions and does the internal fan come on at all?

Put it in safe mode (Keep hitting F8 on start), if the problem has subsided whilst in safe mode it is probably a driver issue.

What he says - send it back to Acer's repair centre. They should send a courier to pick it up.

My son is a little hard on computer stuff - he has Tourette's and tends to bash stuff when he tics.

I got an Acer laptop for him to use for A levels and took out their accidental damage policy. This has proved good value as it has been back twice for a new screen after it got scratched and once for a new keyboard. Plus they sent a new power brick as he managed to break a cable. Their return to base repair service is pretty good. You do have to be without the thing for a few days but the turnaround is pretty quick.

Despite the harsh treatment, the Acer keeps working.
