Been running an Acerbis auxiliary 5L tank on my XCo for a few weeks and pleased with it so far. It's connected up to the main tank via the tank vent and empties automatically into the main tank and when it's empty the main tank is drained in the normal way. Not finalised where I'll mount the Acerbis but for the moment it's in one my Dirtbagz panniers.

Just did a mileage test until the Acerbis and main tank both ran out which happened when the trip showed 240 miles. This was 100 yards from a petrol station, so with that luck I may do the lottery this week!

To refill the 2 tanks took a total of 14L. This suggests I'm getting an MPG of 78. So a range of 240 miles and 78MP, but I assume that the odometer has the same 7% error as my speedo, so this should be reduced to 224 miles and an MPG of 73. Still not bad figures.

Any pics of this setup? - is it possible to remove the auxillary tank when not needed? If so this might be a useful fix for me.

Acerbis setup.

Hi Quarryman, sorry for the delay. The photos are not great but show the hose from the Acerbis connected into the breather from the main tank. In the 2nd photo, you can see the non return valve which is part of the breather and is accessed by removing the 6 screws around the tank vent. This valve and spring needs to be removed. In connecting the Acerbis it is important to make sure the connection is airtight and the seal under the 6 screws is also airtight.

Once you have connected your Acerbis as shown, you need to run the bike for 10 - 20 miles to get it to work. Tickover on the drive is no good, I tried. However it does work and is a good cheap option for increasing the range of these great bikes.

Where to mount the Acerbis, well not sorted that one yet, it's still resting in my right hand Dirtbagz pannier.

Hope this helps.

interesting and useful pointer to increasing the range. I'll keep that in option in the "back pocket" for the day I need the range. Not sure that tank by Hot Weld is worth it........well not on my budget.

Just made a bracket from 1.6 gauge steel then fixed tank to the XChallenge and it works a treat

Cheers
Eddie
