Achill Island (Ireland) 20-22 July 2007

Long years had passed, war came so fast
Bravely they marched away
Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd
Wounded and dying lay
Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out
Out from the ranks so blue

FORRY !

2 little boys had 2 little toys

Elaine & I are hoping to be there again this year:thumb :thumb

It's about time I met some Tossers in person so am seriously considering this :)

I'm trying to sort out timings with work and SO and am cosidering doing the trip there in one hit arriving Friday late afternoon/early evening and setting off back Sunday afternoon, spending Sunday night in Dublin and then ferry back Monday morning.

Does anything crack off on the Friday day that I'll be missing or is it pretty much a 'Friday evening to Sunday morning' sort of a 'do' IYSWIM?

Cheers
Andres

Shapeshifter has it summed up pretty well here Andres. Friday is an arrive, beer and craic day. Rideout on the Saturday with more drink, grub and craic in the evening. There will be a quick spin around the island itself on Sunday morning if anyone is fit or interested. :)

You will be sure of a great Irish welcome at the event and I look forward to meeting you there. :thumb2

Fantastic :) Many thanks for that!

Just a wee bit of negotiation to be done at this end and I'll let you know for sure asap.

Tuned In's just rang me, he's worked out a discounted rate for Stenna Sealink crossings with a Travel company. He'll be posting details tonight :thumb2

That's great Gary, much appreciated :thumb2

Pobably a stupid question but is there any advantage / disadvantage crossing to Dun Laoghaire rather than Dublin (apart from the negotiated price of course)?

Dun Laoghaire has a faster ferry only a few miles difference than Dublin port

Andres, it's much easier to get away from Dun Laoire and onto the M50 (orbital motorway around Dublin) than it is from Dublin Port. HTH ;)

If anyone, particularly those coming from over the pond, had the time & the inclination to come over a bit earlier I'd be happy to bring you from Dublin / Dunlaoire to Achill via non-main roads. I'm planning on leaving by lunchtime on Thurs 19th, leaving plenty of time to get to Achill for dinner :D

And we could even get a spin in on Friday before everyone else arrives on Friday :bounce1

Aidan, the deed is done :)

Room booked for the Friday and Saturday night for myself and good lady girlfriend, Amanda :thumb2

Cheers
