Has any one any advice on what action/sport cam recorder to buy?
I want to use it for both motorcycling and skiing considering Go Pro can anyone advise on different versions of Go Pro's ?

I use a Drift HD Ghost. Quality is really good and it's waterproof as standard. One of the features I like, and my GoPro using friends have said they wish their GoPros have, is the tag recording mode. Effectively it is always recording but not putting the video to the SD card. If you then think "ooh, that was worth recording" you hit the button on the remote and it records the last 2 minutes (user configurable) and the next 2 minutes. It saves you recording everything and then going through the footage looking for the good bits. It also has a car DVR mode, whereby it records in a loop when external power is supplied so can be used in accident situations. Unfortunately you can't use that and the tagging mode at the same time.

The remote is excellent. It has a start and stop button - that's it. It has a bright light which flashes to tell you what the camera is doing, so you know instantly if you are recording or not.

The lenses are replaceable and quite cheap so not an issue if it gets a stone chip. You can also rotate the lens so don't have to make sure the camera is mounted exactly vertical or horizontal.

The only drawback is the built in mic is a bit naff, but I've put an external mic in the glove box of the RT and always use that. By putting it in there you get the sound of the engine but no wind roar.

Battery life is about 2.5 hours I think, but I always use mine on external power as it's just easier.

I think there is a new version which has even better battery life, but I don't think it is so much better that I feel the need to upgrade.

+1 for the Drift. Very versatile when it comes to fitting option on a motorcycle (or helmet). Light weight, great quality footage and very good after sales service.

+1 for the Drift Ghost, no external housing req'd, my only gripe is the colour coded remote that flashes various colours to let you know what mode your in.
I'm colour blind and so can't tell what mode I'm in when on the move, today I took 1500 photo's !! when I meant to be filming

I've got a drift HD170 and apart from the poor night time quality I would echo the above sentiments.

I also have a Drift HD and have found it a great product. I had a few glitches with accessories but actioncamera replaced those immediately. I've used the suction mount on the inside of the bike screen and it stayed on well.

I found it difficult to mount the camera to the helmet in the exact position I wanted. When riding off road, the camera came loose & I ended up with 20 minutes of filming the floor :( Don't know whether this was my incorrect mounting technique or something it will do again. There are youtube videos to help you mount the camera to a helmet correctly - I found those 1 month after my holiday :blast

Using a remote control is brilliant. However, that's included with the Drift HD, a big extra for the GoPro.

One observation worth considering if you're travelling overseas: I found no one selling Drift accessories but GoPro gear is practically everywhere - outdoor, motorcycle & cycle shops and airport duty free shops with discounts!

I too have a drift ghost and previously a Drift HD
I am having a few problems with the Ghost and it is about to go back to Action Cameras for sorting
but in short it fogs up
the USB port is wonky and the back has broken
