Playing around with my new Zumo toy I noted that there are some roads missing in my local area. These tend to be small sections of new(ish) road that connect established roads. When I say new(ish) I mean they've been there for 5 years or so.

Is there any way I can add them to Mapsource so the routing software doesn't send you round the houses?

Thoughts Mr Whatton, Guru of all things Garmin! :thumb2

Firstly, Whatton is not a Garmin Guru, at least I've never read anything to make me believe so.

secondly you cannot update the roads yourself. Its what makes you buy the updates....

RTFM.... As Og would say...:bounce1

Only joking

only by telling navteq about the additions/anomalies. become a map reporter on www.navteq.com

you might even find (as i have) when you look at their latest maps (on their website) that it has already been fixed and will be in the next release.

There are ways to update the road detail, but to preserve the routing data in it, the software costs money... It's also reasonably hard to use, stuff does get lost during the process I believe, and they discourage altering the Navteq data (though last time I had a look, it was possible).

The wife and I went to Iceland a while back (wanted cheap burgers) and I managed to find some GPS maps and mapping tools on the web for Iceland - looking at them you could use the same tools to update your existing Garmin - Mapsource Maps, but when I approached Garmin's tech support to find out which version I was needed I was informed that part of the licensing agreement for you Garmin includes a statement that you will not change their maps.

I left it at that point...

I can't remember the website, bit if you do a search for Iceland GPS maps, you should be able to find it and all the mapping tools if you are that keen.

Wrong as per later posts, but I didn't know that either so you not alone in being a clueless expert :thumb2

Yes you can do it

Expect to spend hundred of hours and lose your routing data
(copyright issues ignored)

If you really want to go further then Google GPSmapper and GPSedit

Thanks guys. I took the option of updating Navteq. Shame they don't offer some form of incentive, I'm sure we'd all become budding reporters and they'd save having to survey everything.

Adding roads ..

As others have said

Not possible to add roads to mapsource ..

Pedantic mode mapsource is a programs that deals with maps .. the maps are things like “world Map” “City Navigator” etc

You could make your own maps – using gpsmapper etc .. just include the missing roads .. then download your maps (and gamins maps) to your gps .. they will not be routable but you can see them .. they mix in with the garmin maps ,…. that way your added roads will be there .. and send them off to smelly bike to be included in his maps too?
