My Zumo 400 has become almost unusable after 2 weeks of Norwegian rain...that's another story. Zumo 400s are not repaired by Garmin any more, I asked. So I've now got a 550 as replacement. I can still connect the 400 to the laptop and want to upload all my Favourites(Waypoints) so these can be downloaded to the 550.

When I link the 400 to Mapsource(or to Base Camp) I only see a subset(the most recent) Favourites and these are coming off the SD card. These Waypoints were loaded for the Norwegian trip. When I select the base 400 unit it says no Waypoints are on the unit and there are loads from 5 years of use. Strange! Any Ideas?

Have a look in the Zumo memory for files current.gpx and temp.gpx. I think they're in a folder GPX. You can open these files in Mapsource (r-click, open with) and I think you'll find your favourites in one of these files listed as waypoints. You should be able to select them all in the list and copy them into another file (open Mapsource a second time, and paste the waypoints into a new file)

Tomcat, thanks for that. When I look in the GPX folder in the GARMIN folder on the main Zumo unit(not the SD Card) I only see an ARCHIVE folder and a TEMP file. The Archive folder seems to contain track logs, from the recent Norway trip. If I open the TEMP file with MapSourse I only get the latest Favourites/Waypoints part of the routes we used for the Norway trip. There is no CURRENT file or folder visible in the GPX folder.

The Favourites/Waypoints are still showing on the Zumo under Favourites when I disconnect it from the netbook and switch it on, so they have not been erased. I deleted one of the favourites on the Zumo to see if any of the files showed a date change. The GPX folder showed a date change, indicating that the contents had been updated today, however the Archive and Temp file did not show a date change and both still show a July date. So it seems the Favourites are inside the GPX folder on the Zumo but are not visible for some reason. I'm running windows 7 on this netbook if this is relevant. I've rebooted this laptop but no change.

OK, I now have access to my 180 Favourites/Waypoints and it seems the issue was user error.

I've learner a few things in the last 30 mins. Firstly the TEMP.gpx file contains the waypoints you have sent to the Zumo from MapSource or Base Camp, before they have been imported and can be used. The CURRENT.gpx file is not a permanent file it gets created only when you link the Zumo to the computer, in this case a Netbook. It gets created by the Zumo checking which Favourites are installed and it builds a new CURRENT.gpx file. Or it does if you are patient enough to wait the 2 mins or so it takes to get created when the USB cable is connected. If you press the CANCEL button while the "Preparing to enter mass Storage mode" showing then no CURRENT.gpx file exists for Mapsource or Base Camp access. I hope this may be helpful to others, but it seems I can now load my favourites on to my new 550.

Thanks for comments Tomcat, they led me on a path that found the answer.
