Adjustable OE 12GSA WC footpegs should fit 12GSA, but don't seem quite right.

Hi all

Bought a pair of OE adjustable footpegs from BMW a few weeks back instead of those offered by TT.

They can be seen here:

http://www.sierrabmwonline.com/prod...gs-77258525369-77258525370-46718526107-p-3179

and here:

They are available singly

77258525369 Left

77258525370 Right

46718526107 additional springs

I've just got around to fitting them and found that the bush through which the fixing pin passes is some 3.5mm shorter on the new pegs than on the OE pegs. Coopers BMW assured me that they are interchangeable. Pics below. Dimension A = 25mm and dimension B = 28.5mm.

Any thoughts?

Richard

Missing washer(spacer)?

That was my first thought but, as none of the (US) sites mention the need for spacers, I have discounted it - although I might have to resort to obtaining them or manufacturing an extension to the bush.

I think that - and I'd like someone to confirm this - BMW may have slightly changed the footpeg design between 2011 and 2012 because the Chatanooga.com site only shows these pegs against GSAs from 2012. My GSA is an October 2011 model.

Also, and slightly worrying, there are no 'stops' on the adjustable pegs to limit their upward travel when the bike is on its side. I've only been playing with the peg for the RHS side at present because the gear lever has to come off to remove the LHS side peg, but I have noticed that the upward lift of the RHS peg is only stopped by contact with the brake lever :-(

I think I would suggest that they are designed for the WC only.... As the GSA & WC do not share the same frame.

That would be my initial thought but another GSer of this parish (*) put me on to them as a result of a discussion about TT adjustable pegs. They fit his GSA.

* you know who you are and I will not share any blame with you if it turns out that the pegs will not fit a 2011 GSA.

mmm,as i said ive had mine on for months and thousands of miles and there has been no prob, tbh i did not notice the shorter portion and just fitted them.just done a 3000 mile trip to spain 2 up and with really hard cornering in the pyranees i had both pegs scraping and all worked well, pegs lifted up nicely and the plastic sliders are well chamfered.personally i can see no problem with them as they are much lower than the tt ones and after a 14 hour day i will take comfort every time:D

Thanks Autogs

What year GSA do you have?

What I am tempted to do is make some temporary aluminium spacers in time for my next trip and then have some steel spacers made with extended stops to mimic those on the OE pegs.

I'm impressed to hear of peg scraping - intentional peg scraping is way beyond my ability :-) - but I like the reports of 14 hour comfort.

Cheers

Heh heh heh

Might buy a pair to replace the OE rubber on mine. What mileage do you get from them? My tires tend to suffer from the long autobahn/autoroute journeys necessary to reach our 'playgrounds'. So much so that for our trip to Slovenia in September we have opted to travel out and back on the DB Autozug.

Cheers

At a guess you probably need the standard 1200GS WC spacer tube 46 71 8 528 781 ?

That's a thought :-) Is that required for fiting them to the GS WC in place of standard pegs?

Might have a word with Coopers.

They are standard for standard pegs on a standard WC from what I can see on the parts fiche. When fitting the optional wider pegs to the WC you probably move re-use the spacers from the original pegs with the new ones, just like the pivot pin is re-used?

What do these do for the standard foot rest position?

Haven't taken any pictures with the new pegs in place because of the spacer etc trauma, but the adjustable pegs are much lower - perhaps 25-30mm lower at their lowest setting - than stock.

Autogs, can you supply a picture?

I've ordered the spacers mentioned above and, as insurance in case they don't do the job, asked a friendly machinist if he can make spacers.
