Anybloody know if its possible to increase the pre-load on an Ohlins rear shock by screwing down the locking rings.

Yes I know theres a preload knob, but I find the springs to soft compared to the damping levels.

Stef - all basic preload is done by the locking ring.

back the damping adjuster off -big plastic knob - set your 1/3 travel using the ring

then tune on the damping knob

best =softest for conditions with damping to suit

The word 'soft' and the word 'preload' should never appear in the same sentence! It creates a lot of confusion.

The way to adjust preload is to fully back off the hydraulic preload, and then adjust the ring so the bike's static shag is about an inch. That is for the back, the front static shag should be about half an inch with the hydraulic preload fully out.

Cheers guys, my static sag at the mo is way to much about 75-100mm , dont know why thestandard setting cant cope with my svelte frame :P
