Adjustments for speedo and headlamps to an imported 08 GSA

How long has your motorbike been in the Uk for?

Legally you have 6 months to get it registered in the UK in a 12 month period. See http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...le/DG_10014623.

Many folks seem to take a lot longer and have no issues...ahem.

Been here since September, so not very long.

My insurance company in Belgium has raised the premium to a point where it make no sense anymore to delay registering it here

Cheaper way ?

How about this ...I found it on the Parts Fiche at www.r1200gs.info:
62117712088 REPAIR KIT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER -
Then I googled that whole description and read more - it seems to be the part number for an exchange of an old instrument "cluster" ( which includes the speedo..) against a new one. You could see if your dealer recognises the part number and would let you chop your old cluster in against a new one with an mph dial....It would be a whole bunch cheaper - the US$ price is 250 for the exchange unit = about 160 quid.
You would still need the dealer's computer to hook the thing up properly though.

Can you point me to where you see that this part number includes the speedo? From what I can see on the parts fiche, the repair kit only includes - the upper housing, some kind of gasket, a torx screw and an overlay for the indicators.

Thanks very much for taking the time to look this up, I appreciate the help with this.

Yeah..I see what you mean, but if you google the part number and description, you can go to: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0397&mospid=49382&btnr=62_0466&hg=62&fg=05
And there it refers to a price +"core".....maybe you're right and its just a deal for the surround, screws and gaskets... but it'ld be cool if it was an exchange recon price....
Maybe that is just too much optimism. Asking about it should be for free though!
Good luck.

Second dial down is a MPH one:

To change the on board computer from mph to km and fuel consumption from miles per gallon to liter/100km is done within a few minutes and did only cost 16 Euro (for my GB export GSA) so I assume it should be as easy the other way around.

Complete UK spec headlamp assembly is also available but you mention that you already sorted that one.

Good luck.

Thats got to be the best way !
And it is not a big deal for the dealer to programme the computer so that odometer and trip read miles - the dealer invoice for the re-programming should be enough to convince the inspectors once you have fitted the new face.

In the US, "core exchange" means that you exchange the old, non working part for the new one that was replaced, and the price reflects that.

Thanks for this. I've ordered a new face.

That seems to be the solution! Now to find out if I can change the face myself or need to get someone to do it. I've called a few dealers and all have said they will not change the face alone.

Thanks very much to both of you.

All the DVLA paperwork/forms I've seen that are needed to get the bike registered in the UK say that the headlamps must be adjusted/changed and the speedo must show either MPH & KMH or MPH alone. If there is a way to not do this, I'd love to know where I can find this info - that's why I posted!:)

Sot1200, you have a PM

A U.K registered bike cannot have a MPH display alone it must have both.... i know this as my ex Guzzi was recalled because Piaggio decided to sell bikes in the UK with a pure MPH only display.....

Good luck and I hope I'm wrong but the dealer had to reprogram the ECU on my bike to read miles when he fitted the UK speedo.
