I am interested to know if any of you have had any problems with GS or ADV falling off their side stands?
Saturday morning my friend, neighbour and fellow GS rider Simon Moores was knocking on my door for help, his Adv. had been blown over by the wind! Falling to the right hand side, it been blow over , away from it's side stand lean angle which is substancial, onto the off side. There was little damage as he has crash bars and alloy box which was slightly dented. It took both of us to right it.
I found it hard to beleive this had happened, especially as I think the side stand is too short and in my opinion the bike leans too far to the left. so much so I have put a pad onto my side stand so the bike leans less.
Lets hear you views please.
thanks
Barrie.

My house mates bikes get blown over regularly as they park it too close to the wall and the turbulence with these strong gusts can easily throw a bike over when it hits the wall and then back onto the bike.
I have mine on the main stand as the sidestand seems dodgy as it is. Never been blown over from the mainstand though.

i agree the side stand is about as useful as tits on a fish, i believe the stand does not go far enough forward, i.e it is too upright and it is too short, and it's no use and it bends with a full load on it.
i told my dealer, he was very surprised and therefore he replaced it with an identical one !!!
i too have put a pad under it but i try not to use it ever, only if i wanna try and have some exercise picking the thing up

I found with the preload on the rear shock on mediun (normal) the angle of lean wasn't that great and made the bike seem a tad unsteady.:(

With it turned up full its a whole lot better the only drawback is it can be a bugger getting it up straight again to ride off.

Adv/GS sidestand

Cookie, it really was not pushed as it was in a locked, fenced garden parking area in private house, I too found it difficult to think it could have blown over but it did.

just my initial reaction. had it done to me once.

must have been a tornado to push an adventure over the high side :)

Hey Bill you better start looking for a surefoot stand for that airhead as you will have more problems with luggage, freaky sidestand operation than wind and will be blown more than you wanted to initially.

We lost a lot of good trees here in the in the Midlands.

My opinion:- 60 gusting 80mph as it was on Saturday -Sunday would have corresponded to Beaufort Scale 9-10.

A 9 is easily enough to blow an Adv off side or centre stand in any direction..... that tank is a fair old top'sl.

And don't forget the lift too:-

This is why so many sheds go east.

A 10 would have it somersaulting down the road with out much difficulty.
