Just in case anybodies interested in Advanced Motorcycle Cources I've copied the following from a Rydales e-mail.

Advanced Motorcycle Courses

Andy Smith (aka 'Foody') will be running another 4 day advanced riding course in April. Unlike the earlier courses that he did (which gave an NVQ) this course will lead to a RoSPA test.

All the instructors used are RoSPA examiners and RoSPA have said that any one who does the course would be able to pass the RoSPA test without any further training.

This is a four day course spread over a number of weeks to suit individuals covering the theory of riding based on the Police Rider's Handbook - Roadcraft. Total cost just £320 (plus the RoSPA test fee- £45 - for those wishing to take the test at the end of the course)

Worth a go??

Slow Manoeuvring and Emergency Braking Day.

After the success of earlier training days Andy will also be arranging another Slow Manoeuvring and Emergency Braking days. Held on a secure 'off road' training site where we will have the opportunity to create a wet weather braking area to practice before you actually need it.

Also, hone your slow speed skills under 'Police' instruction. Experience the training that Andy had to undergo before being let loose on a patrol bike! Build confidence and learn to handle your bike in even the tightest spot.

If anyone wants any details please contact Andy for dates and costs etc.

Anyone know if RoSPA operate in wiltshire (being lazy, should google it really) and can you just take the test without paying out for a training course? :nenau

Did the Star Rider Gold (based on the same training methods as this) in 88 and the IAM in 2002.
Figure I should show willing and make it a full bag as it were.

Going for a few more browney points with the Driving Standards Agency.
got to show that I'm being positive in my personal Development

I already have more driving qualifications and experiance than most of their cheif examiners as it is. But must be proactive and do more training :rob

Running out of courses now

Not sure about Wiltshire, but all affiliated groups should be contactable via the roadar site (http://www.roadar.org/), there's always the Gold, Diploma and BTEC qualifications if you want to complete the set ;-)

There is no obligation to attend any 'approved' training in advance of the test from memory. I seem to recall that the 'test fee' is levied by RoSPA at 50quid or thereabouts. So in principle, find someone qualified to assess, fill out the paperwork, ride and submit should be possible.

Drop Andy a line at his details above, I've always found him excellent to deal with and I'm sure he'd be more than happy to discuss the matter ... if there is a possibility of a bacon sarnie in it, it normally helps too ...

Gotta work out my next steps too, did the RoSPA last year and cleaned a gold, so got 2 more years before re-assessment for that ... fancy a bit of off-roading now to help brush up some different skills I think!

BTW ... Andy has just confirmed that the costs for the Advanced training this year are £350 for the course plus £50 admin fee to RoSPA if you decide to go for the test.

Still very reasonable IMO.

North Wales Police are doing one or two day rides on 2 / 3 / 4 April. One day gets a post-DSA certificate with the IAM observed ride on the second day. Not sure of the prices but I think £100 if 3 riders; £150 if 2 riders and £200 for a solo.
Details / contacts here

I'd been off 2 wheels for 19 years and I had a good day with the instructor - lots of tips and encouragement. Made a huge difference; I was police rider / driver trained in the 1970s and had driven ambulances for 15 years so I know (knew ...) Roadcraft etc, so I'm not sure how a rider without the basics of advanced driving skills would fare.

put some TKCs on the bike ready for the baskerville weekend, it's a whole new world riding the beasties off road :D:D

sorry for the hijack, I was a star rider instructor years ago and I really do need to do some more training

the one thing that I have noticed over the years is that advanced riders are very easy to spot on the road, must be something in it :D

highly recommended if you haven't done it, well, and if you have :nenau
