What are the views on putting the black plastic beak extender on the non-adventure GS?

Got a chance of getting a genuine BMW part, should I do it?

Adds weight
Does nothing for aerodynamics.
Costs money.
Doesn't necessarily look good.
A useless piece of bling.

Go ahead and fill your boots.:D

I think they were a fashion accessory at one time for non-adv bikes, plus I'm sure there was an issue with beak envy.

Absolutely, it really changes the appearance of the bike.

+1 :thumby:

Also offers some protection in a spill. Many years ago I had a minor off track excursion on a track day. The beak extender got scuffed, the beak paintwork was fine. I think a replacement was less than £50 which is cheaper than a respray. Go for it :)

Yes.

And tomorrow, you should wear the blue stretchy pants with the seam free gusset, and have ham and egg sarnies.
Don't forget your mittens, it will be cold.

Hope that helps :comfort

Defo yes... mainly for peotection of the beak...i dont think it adds to the overall weight of such significance that you motice any difference when pick the heavy lump up... go for it

NO, it just looks wrong on a GS, a wanna be?

That is just my opinion though, it is a free world (the one I live in anyway)

I own a non Adv GS because for me it's a better bike. I do get it when riders who need the extra range of the GSA's tank fit one, but cosmetic do-dads. Nah. As others (with varying degrees of tact) have already said, your bike your call.

Yes - gives the bike a much meaner look and good for road presence.......

People bolt all sorts of cosmetic crap to their bikes, change their colours, spend stupid money on bits of branded, bent stainless steel etc, etc.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - do what you like - it's your bike.

I did the same when I fitted an Adv tank, but have since removed it and filled the holes/re sprayed the beak. Didn't like the look - it looks strange when you see pics of the bike leaned over in a corner and can see underneath the beak... Better without IMO.

I've always found that the only reason the beak extension gets damaged is because it sticks out more than a bare beak.

So if the beak extension isn't fitted the beak wouldn't get touched so it's not actually protecting anything.

What's needed is a protector for the beak protector :D

Helo tape on the beak protector will solve any problems...

A spill

You can just make out the side closest to the camera has a 5 - 6" score mark from the tip up the edge.... this was after a nice 180 flip and a bit of a slide - New 40 quid beak vs secondhand front nose piece 80 - 100 plus quid....

you just never know:green gri
