Adventure Country Tracks (ACT) Portugal

I did it around 5 years ago on my old G/S… excellent easy 5 day trip in February. Recommended! What do you want to know?

My son and I did a couple of short sections of it in September this year. Mostly forest tracks. Very do-able, even for me...I am no off-road god... despite being practically perfect of course...

Uh – didn't know about this.

Interesting.
Is there a risk in queuing up behind groups of blokes on GSs on those trails?
 
Looks good, especially if you camped between their night stops, perhaps more chance of quiet tracks as you'd be out of sync with others, as well as peaceful camping

I did it in 2017 over 6 days. Its good fun even on GS's and AT's. We got caught out on a fairly remote trail through some fields. It lashed rain the night before and we couldn't get up a steep hilly section that was just mud. We had to remove the barbed wire fencing running along the track and head across the fields.
We stayed in guest houses and small hotels. Cheap as chips.

Thanks for your reply, did you prebook accommodation or was it easy to just get sorted on arrival ? :beerjug:
 
I did this with some friends in September 2018, I was on a 690 but we also had a GS, GSA and an Africa Twin, on the trip we encountered 2 other bikes . Really enjoyable, nothing too technical for a big bike on the trails, a real mix of terrain and lots of fun twisties on the road sections. We pre-booked accommodation, a couple of the towns we stayed in were very quiet and I'm not sure how easy finding stuff on spec would have been. Plenty of villages en-route for coffee and lunch stops.

We had to rush back because one of the guys couldn't get a lot of time off, but did manage to squeeze in a couple of days in the Picos before we got the ferry back.

There's also a new Pyrenees ACT route in the works as well, hoping to try that in due course.

Looks like an interesting route to do. I wanted to take a week-ish off on the bike to Europe with friends with varied abilities, so easy offroad route would make everyone happy.

Pre-booked all the way. The only issue with this is if you get stuck out on the trail with a puncture or breakdown. If there's a group its not so much of an issue.
I did it with Overlanders here in Ireland. They shipped the bike to Bilbao and we flew in there and headed across Spain to the start.
The following years I did the Greece ACT, the Romanian ACT and this year the Italian ACT.
None of them are too demanding if you have a reasonable level of fitness.
