Have just fitted a new Adventure top box to my GS and it came with the retaining strap fitted.

What the US site refers to as 'straps' are restraining wire cables, and they have been fitted to the Adventure luggage for some while now - or at least mine has them :)

This has been covered...

Try thread: Plastic Hinges which covered the retaining straps.

I am shortly to do a warranty claim list and these one be one of the things I ask for.....

I'm not sure that I will get them as a warrenty claim. The bike was second hand, but they fitted rails and panniers for me for the grand sum of 250 GBP, which seemed a bit of a bargain.

But seeing how I now see how the hinges could break I want some of these wires !!!

Good price but you can always ask, it does not hurt the dealer....

Mine came fitted with them from new (ten months ago now) but some other people on the forum bought their bikes later and they weren't fitted (old stock maybe?).

Because this has been an issue for a while now I checked with my local dealer and they said they supply them FOC to people with the earlier panniers.

Sorry, I don't have the part number.

Had all the same problems lid snapping off etc etc. started thread

"Pannier problems"

And Big Al Litch helped me out with a set of cables. Which have cured the problem and are well worth fitting.

Hope this helps

Failing GS Alu panniers.

My topbox flew off on a bumpy road in Saudi. Just noticed this shiny object bouncing in my mirror. The locking mechanism snapped so in the end it would not lock-on to the bottom rung.
Anyway, I took it to my BM dealer in Kuwait and after a while got a new one under warranty. As already mentioned 2 new bits were added.
1. The cable to hold the lid from falling back.
2. A screw bracket which fits on the top rung where the pannier is hooked under the rung. it is held in place by a threaded nut wher the bracket bolt goes through a hole in the pannier.

Now I have one pannier secure. No doubt the other 2 brackets are not free for the others. Thank god for bungees.:redlight :redlight

£250 for fitting the pannier rails (Adv panniers) is bloody expensive, its only about half a dozen bolts. Should take about 15-20 minutes.

I'll try my local dealer to see if the free cables are available.
