Just noticed that the screen is starting to split on the right hand side bottom mounting point on my GS. What a bummer! Not had the screen long but I guess that BMW would say that I put it on too tight - which I probably did.

There are about 3 small splits radiating from the bolt hole, each about 1/4". Anyone got any ideas for a fix please? Do you think that super glue 'drizzled ' into the cracks might hold it for a while to give me time to save up for a new-un ?:blast

Bike is 2008 but I put on the adventure screen in October 2009 - just before I laid it up in November.

I will try the dealer but if they don't help do you think the super glue would work?

super glue will make a mess it tends to make clear plastic turn white.
to stop the cracks spreading drill 1mm holes at end of cracks .
also did you put the extra bar in place as this takes the strain of adv screen?

Thanks I hadn't thought of drilling holes. Yes I have the extra bar. Have told the dealer of the problem and he has asked to see it so I will take it in - fingers crossed.

spilting

Hi

Are you sure they are spilt ?, A lot has been said on this site regarding these lines around the holes , some say they are "Not" spilts / factures and are moldings "Marks".

Even New screens have them, and If you look carefully on another bike you may find that most have them :blast

Before I would start drilling and glueing I would be 100% sure they are cracks

Do a search and you will see that it has been mentioned many times on this site.

moulding "Marks"

Moulding marks that have appeared after the screen was installed? I don't think so - but hey what do I know?

Good crak

Dealers view is that BMW will not replace screen but will say it has been over tightened - they might be right.

I will try to post a pic tomorrow before I drill some small holes.

There was a GS in John Clarks in Dundee. It had cracking around mounting screws on the wings. was told they were due to overtightening but had not grown.

Before you go drilling holes you might want to mark the cracks with a biro.
See if the crack grows. If not, leave well alone.

I wouldn't attempt using glue. I think it would result in a mess.

If you replace the screen, I think you would still get something for yours on e-bay, even after you've pointed out the 'minor' cracks.

Need pictures I know, but one of the cracks is close to the edge so I don't think it worth marking them. May as well drill the small holes I'm thinking.

Does anyone know the correct torq for the screws?
