Adventure screen 'wings' on GS

Hi,
just ordered up the Adventure screen and fittings to fit to my Gs and did intend to get the wings at the same time.
However, on looking at a GSA in the dealer it appears that the wings are not just screwed onto the side plastic. On the GSA, underneath the wings is a metal frame which is welded on to a support frame and the wings actually screw in to this frame (through the plastic rather than to it).
What this frame gives is a much stronger base to the side plastics on the GSA and there is is virtually no flex especially when compared to the GS side plastics which are 'floppy'.
Has anyone fitted the wings by just screwing them in and do they flap around at higher speeds when caught by wind etc?

Meanwhile, have just ordered the screen and I will try this but suspect it might look a bit odd by itself.

Yes. So far, they've been fine. They may move a little but they certainly don't flap around.

I've fitted the winglets to my 12gs which took no more than 15 minutes.
All I did was fit some big washers to spread the load, no movement at all.
I think some folk have fabricated a piece if metal to act as one big washer but each to there own.

Have them fitted to mine, just needs some stainless steel washers to spread the load, no flopping or moving.

Adventure screen on a 1200GS

Just collected a box of bits from the dealers today - 17 different parts (32 in all) at a price of 406€ That includes screen, deflectors and 'support' - the rest being screws washers etc; It is too hot here at the moment so will probably not fit it all together for a week or two. In the meantime any advice from someone who has done it would be much appreciated.

Fitted the winglets to the GS yesterday with just washers underneath and they seem secure enough.

Along with a GIVI screen they completely transform the comfort of the bike, no more buffeting...excellent and well worth the money and half hour fitting.

Have now fitted both the GSA screen and winglets to my GS.
Expensive at £317 for the lot but really makes a huge difference if anyone is thinking about it.
The screen is much much better, bigger and more ridgid it seems to eliminate all buffeting even at high speeds. Proved by 400+ miles yesterday including a sustained high speed blast down the M74.
The winglets don't seem to add much extra protection IMHO but look the part - the screen on its own looked odd to me, sort of out of balance

Anyway, always lots of people asking about screens

I have also just fitted the screen and deflectors (winglets) and am very satisfied. Worked out at around £275 here in France. That included the supports for the winglets - that fit on the Adventure frame but not the GS - so there will be a refund of about £10+ - which I find not necessary anyway, washers are sufficient.

Winglets on a standard 12GS

Hi, has anybody fitted these winglets to a 12GS with a standard screen and tried it in the wet. If so, does it improve the riding conditions or make them worse? My initial thoughts are that it should make it a lot more comfortable but it might create a number of eddies that actually make things worse.

I'm curious as to whether the winglets stick out enough to cause more damage to the beak plastics etc. The GSA has a wider girth and the high up protection bars that look to keep the winglets away from the ground.

Yes, I slid down the road last week while trying to get to work on the slushy roads. It was a low speed drop, no more than 10mph and the rocker cover bore the brunt of the crash. No other visible damage to the bike at all.

PS Forgot to mention, I do have the winglets fitted.

I've done winglets + givi, massive improvement over standard screen . Dealer (rainbow) reluctantly agreed to fit them. Haven't noticed any movement at all upto 100mph (autobahn honest guv).

Highly recommended.

Will try with standard screen in the spring.

Had an off at 50mph with a set fitted and the bike slid 100 feet down the hard shoulder on it's left side.

The left side winglet had to be replaced as it was badly scraped and worn away on one corner but no damage to the beak at all.

I fiited Nippy Norman's version of the winglets last week and can report they do make a huge difference to the buffeting and noise.
I am using them with the standard screen.

Hi,

After trying endless combinations with the standard screen and tobinators I cannot seem to find a position that reduces the noise to acceptable levels. It is way too loud for me. Hence I am now going down the alternative screen route.

Based on a number of hours looking at the various posts I have concluded that the Adventure screen plus winglets offers the combination of:

Eliminating noise and buffeting - primary objective
Looking original - BMW part

I noticed that there are a number of people on this thread that made this mod some time ago and I was wondering what the "running report" is like now after a number of months. Specifically have there been any problems with the winglets - either damaging the beak or other.

Before I make this considerable investment I just want to be sure to cover all the bases.

Fitted a set last week though it did take longer than 15 minutes. I have a Secdem screen and the winglets were quite a close fit, resulting in minor mods to the bottom edge of the screen with the dremmel.

Not done enough mileage to say how good they are yet.

Screen/winglets

I have had a Wunderlich Ergo screen and BM winglets fitted for a while now and can honestly say the effect is brilliant. No more buffeting and wind noise, but because of the now more smooth zone behind the screen, the road noise is much stronger. I use earplugs all the time, so it is no big deal. I tried Tobinators with the stock screen, but couldn't find any setting which worked.
