Hi,

I am thinking of buying an 1150gs but would like to have an adventure seat on it. Can anyone tell me whether the adventure seat fits a non-adventure bike? If not what modifications would be needed or what alternatives are there?

Thanks

Yes you can convert it. One of the easiest ways is to appeal to a fellow tosser who might want to swap.

However if not, there is a little search button up there that will kick out 200 replies to this very question. Mike O has definitely done it, maybe start searching under him

Cheers, Nick

Personally I'd go to a dealer first and take 2 1150s out for a test.....a standard GS and an ADV. Find out which seat suits your butt before lashing out lots of cash.

Having had both bikes, IMHO the standard is far more comfortable, especially for the pillion if you take one.

Top advice Mike.

Personally I thought the std GSA was sent from hell to inflict me as much discomfort as possible.

I've been trying to swop for 2 weeks now and not had any interest so expect to buy the bits. I even offered cash aswell but no response. All the bit new will cost you in excess of £350!!!
I have picked up a seat from ebay for £30 (in need of TLC) and expect to pay £150 for the other bits:(

If any one had the bits I'm sure they would have helped me cause thats the nature of the tosser. Tried ebay uk and De and have had no success.

Sorry to be the voice of doom about your idea but expect the worst.

Twin seat is more practical than ADV seat, you could try making that more comfy for the easy/cheaper option.

Thanks for the advice folks. I had a 1200GS for one month last summer and sold it because I was almost crippled after an hour of riding. I am convinced that it was because I did not have the freedom of movement to slide back in the seat because of the step ie more to do with the sitting geometry rather than the seat comfort alone. Such is my logic I guessed that the adventure seat would offer better ergonomics.

I need to get a couple of hours test drive from a freindly dealer to test my theory.

I converted my standard 1150 seat over the ADV version....... I find it so much more comfy than the standard, here is my theory why:

Most people don't have the standard height seat, they opt for the lower version, less padding and the same substraight, this combined with most GS'ers being overweight (that being above 14 stone ;)) it doesn't make a good combo........

What you trying to say????

I've got big bones :augie

I've never called you Bernard ;)

Most of the forum users are fat bastards by their own admission................. Maybe you should be able to define seat foan density as well as seat height when you order the bike........

adv seat

I thought that my adv seat was crap (standard not low)
had it lowered and gelled by p+p in birmingham (01217844001)
it's now lurrrvly

keep trying to find someone to swap with but be patient, a lot of adv owners want to do the swap the other way, something will turn up but it might take a couple of months

A bit drastic selling a bike because of a seat!

I have owned many (standard and ADV) GSes in my time, and not liked the standard seat on any. It is far cheaper to change the seat than the bike, if you like the bike.

Try Melvin Hunter, Corbin, Sargent etc. There are plenty of people on the site that will let you borrow a custom seat for a while to find out which fits you best.

The seat was uppermost in my mind as the reason but when you add a screen and tobinators, hugger and other parts to make this an all year round all weather bike commuter - it was the wrong bike and not worth investing in.

I had three RTs before, 150k between them and never had to spend anything on them to make them do what they had to. Looking at this web site it really seems a bit of a lottery as to whether GS standard parts or accessories do the job.

Why am I thinking of buying a GS????

Well they are great fun to ride (for a bit at least) and there seems to be a great community of owners and they look good (the bikes). Then there is something spiritual - Zen and the art of GS modifcations maybe!!

Cheers Richard
