12000 miles on the road, from London to Portugal, Amsterdam, Switzerland and Monaco, no issues except for a few punctures:blast.
Park the bike up for the night and BANG, this happens:eek:.

All i know is that these bars have just the right amount of give. Hopefully the can be straightened though:tears

Did you see what happened, any other damage from impact? Looks like the bars did their job. I'm on the lookout for a set for my recently purchased 1150 and this has given me the incentive to speed up the search.

Crikey, i'll stick with my sw motech ones... had the same happen to me and they didnt look like that...

My Givis have absorbed MUCH worse, several times now, and they've only been scratched, not bent like that. I suppose that there's something to be said for the bars absorbing the energy of an impact and not transmitting it to the engine or subframe, but those look like they bend much too easily. :eek

Are the bars bent in at one side or bent out at the other...if you see what I mean:nenau

Did you see what happened or at least did you get chance to get hold of the scroat that did it:mad:

What a load of tosh - you have no idea how bad the impact was.

I "think" that I see what you mean.
And that's probably what has gone wrong ! "The fitting..."
It is hard to trust that just a "fall over" create such a big distorsion :/

Dont get me wrong, it was quite a heavy impact. :blast
What happened was the impact was shared by both sides of engine bars which meant that when the right hand side 'caved' in, the left side was forced out.
As far as i know i am able to bend them straight by just removing the cross bar.:clap

To be honest going by the pictures it does look like one side has been "pulled" away from the bike.

I am interested in fitting the adv-spec bars to my 800GS and if the bars suffered the only damage then they've done their job well.....IMO :thumb2

Lifes a bitch though, you do a big trip, no other issues ( that you've told us about:augie ) then this happens when you get back home:( W@NKERS

ooops....nearly got on my soap box:rolleyes::blagblah:rob

I'm shorting out getting a number of contacts together to buy/bring back some Wild@heart engine bars from Cape-Town South Africa. They may not be as strong as the adv-spec-bars from other peoples accounts but i love there look.

From your images Zippygser, the bars have bent at the attachment frame plug slot, that could be nasty to bend back. Show us your updates please.

First time I dropped my 800 the Adv_spec bars were only scratched
Second time with a heavy impact on the right side they bent like Zippygser's protecting the bike nicely. I removed the crossbar and bent them back into shape.

I have laid it down a few more times off tarmac and they have not moved yet!

Great news for the AdvSpec bars ...
It seems that they do their job !

So, perhaps not just about right, but just right :augie

Next on my wishlist :D

Cheers
Bernard

Ow just noticed you have the BMW pannier frame, how did it fair?

Brilliant bit of kit actually, the weight of the bike actually fell on them even landing them on the kerb. all they suffered was a scratch, no movement. The kerb would bave split my tank open otherwise :beerjug:

So i decided to try and get the engine bars lined up again.
Removing the cross bar, I attacked one side at a time and got them just right. :clap
Then put the cross bar back and tried to move them again, rock solid.
Really great to know that a big crash while off-roading can be solved pretty quick. Well the pic shows it all:thumb

I have to say, i have dropped my f800gs more than 50 times now - i do a lot of off road riding. When training, I spent a lot of time doing figures of eight at about 1mph on a hard surface whilst standing and going from lock to lock. Ended up on the ground plenty of times.

My holan bars have never shifted http://www.holan.pl

Having said that, they were slightly out of alignment at new  and they still are.

Good luck. The bars appear to have more clearance on one side anyway. They absorb just enough impact so as not to transfer it to the key components on the bike and can be bent back.

In the video below with my friend Rudie riding I didn't even have to bend them back. I reckon a standing fall like zippy's onto the street could be harder.

My money is on the ADV bars.
