Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I've ended up with a Hein Gericke suit.

The RST wasn't so good in the flesh and was definitely budget.

Great service and discount at HG in Maidstone. Now have £25 credit with them too as a result which was a bonus.

I have one of the beige Hein Gerrick Tuareg suits.
Its kept me dry during the heavy rain of last year,
its kept me warm during the cold snap and now having unzipped all the liners and opened up all the vents, its keeping me cool during this hot period.
The only downside is i look a bit of a plonker in a beige suit with bright orange vents everywhere...
Still can't have everything!!

I've had 3 jacket/trousers joining zips fail on a Hein Gericke kit before before giving up on them. In contrast, my Dainese Bruce goretex kit has been perfect over 3 years and has been 100% waterproof in some heavy downpours.

My Rukka Armas jacket is the best jacket I've ever owned, and the only jacket that is truly an all season jacket.

Yes they're very dear....but since I've had mine I've stopped buying other jackets to suit different situations, and it will last you a very long time.

To get a more affordable suit, either buy from Germany (biker.de I think?) and get the cheaper Unit or new Focus trousers...they are all you really need from a trouser

Being 6'7" it is very hard to find bike clothing in slim and tall sizes. However, I managed to find extra long jackets for winter and summer made by First Gear and extra long trousers, also for summer and winter, by Held. So far so good.

If you're a smart **** (with some patience) you can find some bargains. I'm still wearing my BMW Santiago jacket which I bought for nearly new off a certain auction site for £40 two years ago. It took me around Asia the cash I saved bought me top draw smoke for my trip.

Don't rush in and piss your cash away!

like you im 6'7" after much searching i ended up with Hein Gericke cruise jacket and trouser ive had them for about 6 years they are still waterproof but very tired now.

these have performed so well im hoping the newer stuff will fit me

Did you import the First Gear jacket or is there a UK agent I haven't found yet? I'm liking the look of some of their jackets, is the quality as good as it looks?

That's shite that is - so the jacket is now two years old, and useless (not under warranty this time). I have zero confidence in this.

the hideout suit is the same sort of price as the klim and rukka stuff, and its not gore2 its their own version.
To be honest the gore2 shell is fantastic, yes I know its not cheap but not having the jacket absorb water is worth it for me.
I had a bit of money when I retired and bought a klim suit rather than a new bike and intended to keep the suit long term, its 4 years old now and still as waterproof as when it was new. I got the adventure suit but if I were spending money now it would be on the badlands, my son has one, and my brother in law, exepensive yes but no more so than similar suits, but worth it.
None of my cheaper jackets lasted more than 3years or so hard riding, and at 2 or 300 each for a cheaper one that is still fairly waterproof I would be on my second one by now anyway.
But feck it, I have a 13 year old gs and the best riding gear I could aford. You can make do with cheaper no problem, but I didnt want to, I dont have to bother with overjackets, inner jackets, waterproof liner etc etc. I take one riding jacket and strides and know that when I go on a 3000mile trip I am going to stay dry, no extra kit just put it on and ride, and that is worth a hell of a lot to me

Yes I think I'm going to get some expensive kit...like most things it generally works out cheaper in the long term because of not having to constantly replace stuff...with the benefit of better performance too.

"Badlands" = "Klim Padlands Pro", which is Klim's top of the range jacket & trousers. I have the Klim Latitude and am well satisfied with that.

Lancashire Sports Repairs, www.lancashiresportsrepairs.co.uk They are replacing the heavy duty waterproof zip in my one piece laminated membrane suit at the moment. I'll let you know what I think of the job when I get the suit back if you like.

Much cheaper than a new suit, maybe have the opposite sleeve on yours done at the same time as a precautionary measure.
