Hi All

I am thinking about selling my bike and after looking at the few that are available I am at a complete loss as to what it might be worth. Your thoughts please...

It is a red 52 plate R850R non ABS. It is the shape that is the same as the R1150R. The bike has only covered 10,000 miles from new and I am only the second owner. It has full service history and as you can imagine it is in excellent condition.

Will be sold with fly screen, panniers, givi top box and plate, givi tank lock plate and bag, tom-tom rider 2 and mount and a few other minor things.

So, what are your thoughts? how much would you think I could reasonably expect to sell this for?

Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers

Andy

I probably have no more idea than you about its value. But if you want an opinion I would say that, judging by the asking prices on eBlag, it would be 'worth' between £3000 and £3500. That said, it is only worth that to somebody who wants one. The low mileage makes it attractive to a certain type of owner but, again, they have to want that bike. £3500 would buy a reasonable R1150GS of the same vintage but with more miles on the clock. I am sure most buyers would prefer the GS so you may need to lower the price below £3k to make it attractive.

Hope that helps :nenau

Thanks Glynn

Always useful to get a second opinion and you have come to a similar conclusion to me. Some seem to be very optimistic on the asking price that i have seen with a few asking mid 4's! Far too much in my eyes

There's an 850R currently for sale on a watch forum, 20k miles, stood for a year, but will come with a years MOT for £1500 or near offer.....

A friend sold his 2004 1150GS for £2000 about a month ago, Chad bought it. But it did need a good clean up.

It certainly did!! Looks to be a decent bike under all the grime, I'm sure Chad won't stop until it's looking lovely again!

I have a friend who had just sold his very very decent Anniversary 1150 for about the same because it was a cat D. I had a very good look round it and couldn't spot a single detail that looked repaired or replaced.

I have little doubt that a bmw dealer would quite happily sit on your bike in their showroom for as long as it takes to get £4000 with the low mileage and history etc.
However, with you being so far north and the fact that the vast majority of R owners, or more importantly 'potential owners', will never understand the truth about just how good an 850 is in the real world, I'd say you'll be lucky to get £3000, unless you're prepared for a long wait.
It sounds like a cracking bike, is it free of the dreaded Servo?
I'd suggest removing the Givi stuff and sat nav, just leave it with the panniers and screen, sell the rest separately.

Thanks everyone, as you say the 850 is a bit of a hidden gem that many don't even consider.

I need to get the bike out of the garage and take a few recent shots. Once I have done so I will add a couple pictures.

I guess it all boils down to timing and finding someone that wants to shell out for something like this.

Cheers
