myself and a friend were talking and came up with the idea of doing a road trip,
the problem as always is due to work and family commitments we can only spare 5 days maybe 6 nights and are looking at going the second weekend in september, our big question is where to

we have done the overnight ferry to liverpool and drive down to the tunnel and make france by midday and are not afraid of big mileage days but with 5 days we would like somewhere interesting that we could make in a hard days ride (800 to 1000km max)

every option is available from shipping the bikes somewhere and flying after them, riding to and half way accross france in a day, long weekend in scotland

so question is where should we go and how do we get the best value out of such little time,

We are off to Scotland Frank later in September for 5 or 6 nights. It's on our doorstep and Ferry times and prices are good. Lots of great roads and scenery. We are planning to camp but will use hotels if the weather is crap. If you go to France you will waste 2 days, either blasting through the U.K. or on an overnight ferry. You still have a decent journey to get to the hilly bits.

Have a great trip. :beerjug:

Cork to Roscoff ferry then head towards Spain. Plenty of options on the way if you want to just wing it.

I'd have to agree. You wouldn't get bored in 5 days, that's for sure.

Or stay at home & do the Photo Rally. Aidan, Mandy & myself did 4 days over the August BH weekend, mainly Photo but also a few Phoker ones. Almost 1800km & it was some of the best riding I've had in a while :aidan

I'd happily spend 5 days touring Ireland.

If you must go to another place then the short ferry to Scotland would be attractive. Check the weather and turn north or south. The north of England has some fabulous roads to offer.

Leave trips to France & beyond for when you have more time.

def scotland north of england if ya get the weather

cork roscoff would be an idea but thats a day and a half gone just for boat

ripping across here to get to calais - sod that - if you need to france go from portsmouth

to throw a curve ball IOM :thumb2

ferry to Scotland £80 return from here, Isle of Sky, Fort William, Aviemore, the list is endless, great biking roads great tarmac cheap as chips...

In that case, if it was me I'd ship them out to Norway, it's only a 2hr flight to Oslo from Dublin for less than £150 return. Unless the ferry is back on in which case just ride them over.

Why not take in some of the best that the UK has to offer.

2nd week in Sept kids have gone back to school and we often have good weather.

Day 1..North Yorks Moors there's a fantastic route through the moors then upto Hartside via Chop Gate and Alston, then drop down into the Dales.

Day2...Fabulous route that takes in the 21 dales that make up the national Park. (can be found in the Yorkshire section)

Day3... Head up the A6 to Penrith and plan a route back through the Lakes that takes in all the passes, the road from the end of Hardknott down to ULPHA is worth the trip alone.

Day 4...Go play in the Peak district some fabulous roads and plenty that are off the radar.

Day 5...Never been to Wales(but I shall be doing)but from what I've read and heard there are some fantastic roads.

Day 6... Easy ride back to Holyhead.

Don't fret about the weather just get on with it.

Ken and I along with some mates were in the same boat a few years ago, 4 days was the best we could hope for.
We flew into Nice hired bikes from the airport all pre arranged and headed off up in the Gorge Of Verdon and surrounding area, came down into Monaco a very quick spin around the F1 track a great few days I know I have a write up somewhere of it pm me an email address and I'll forward it to you.
