Advice / Help on buying a R1100GS...

What!!!

Wow that is cheap - mine is ~£550 at the mo... hence the £1k is way too much

£218, FC, with CN back in August and that was for the 11 AND my Serow.

hands up for 'Old Fart' status @48 :rob but I've been riding a GS since 2000 and a K100RS for six years prior to that and I've never come close to a £1k premium

Different kettle of fish for my 4x4 pick up, but that's with no NCD... :(

Defo worth a ring round?

Bennetts

I just signed on with Bennetts....cover seems good and price was good too.

27 with 1 years NCD for £430.......I do live in the sticks though!

:)

Ummm... bit older than most of you but my 1100GS and ST1100 with Carole Nash cost me £110 - in total. Fully comp, and for high mileages. There has to be some benefit to being ancient. :thumb

Me too - seems to be turning into an Insurance quote thread
Here in the Republic - full NCB protected, fully Comp, rural setting, both bikes: €360 with Carol Nash. Now you can see why it's called the Rip-off Republic...
Still, better than £1000 - you must be a youngster Nando!

Hmmmm, looks like a few of you can probably remember the 1960s well, while I can barely remember the 1980s...

Nonetheless, I'll look foward to coming to this Forum in circa 2043AD and telling those young whippersnappers

"Ha! You were quoted £58,000 for your insurance!?! Mine is only £18,500 a year!"

Ahhh, only 30 years to go...

In the meantime, I finally got a quote that is similar to what I pay at the moment:

GoCompare.com £568 a year (similar to what I pay now)

There is only one tiny catch to this "great" bargain and its the very small £1,750 excess attached to it if I need to make a claim...

In which case it seems pointless to me to even consider - go TPO and spend some of what you save on securing the bike.

Insurance

Nando,

I started with the GS as my first bike when I was 28 and that cost 1k,and it halved after the 1st year. I get a really good deal through Footman James at £250 fully comp and that includes my Honda. If you join the BMW club you get a discount :D

I hope you manage to get a good insurance deal. Such a shame to have to give up on a lovely bike due to those thieving, over pricing idiots.

All the best

Brad

Wow.... shocking price. I got my 04 GSA when I was 26....bike was 3 years old then I think. Insurance was £126 for the year I think. If it was over £500 I wouldn't have even considered it!

When my eldest lad started riding bikes at 16 (you can ride a 125 at 16 here) he had a Varadero - insurance the first year .... wait for it - just over €2000  next year a new crowd started here and it came down to €900. He now has unrestricted full license it's come down to around €350
