Hi Folks, need some help with insurance broker recommendations / specialists ect.
I've agreed to go ahead today on a very clean R1250GSA TE in ice grey with all the bits, (perhaps naively without checking insurance, expecting it to be broadly similar) and for the life of me can't seem to return a quote this side of £4,400 with Bennetts.
This isn't a first bike blunder - approaching 40, clean license for 15+ years, sensible location, never made a claim, and after taking a riding break back up to 8 years NCB with a 2005 Ducati 749S and now a 2015 R1200R LC currently insured at just a hair over £500/year fully comp with all the addons, but as soon as I put the GSA in I can't return anything lower than the above £4.4k plus for fully comp, and £1100+ third party only which feels a bit silly to say the least.
I understand there'll be a jump going from the R1200R to the R1250 but is there something I should be aware of about these bikes in particular? Are they a target ect? I've tried the usual suspects (Bennetts, CompareTheMeerkat, TheBikeInsurer) and even BMW weren't able to quote on the GSA, but as soon as I go back to the R1200R they're back to around the 500 mark.
Any advice / other names to try outside of the usual suspects very much appreciated, otherwise there may be a "for sale" ad in the near future! I'd like to think there must be smaller firms out there with sensible heads?
TiA, Gryph
