07 GS, lots of miles, needs new rear disk as original is heavily worn.

Not sure what to replace it with (yes, another disk, I figured that one; or maybe nothing as that would cut down on the heavy pad wear?)

Searched the forums and some reckon EBC are OK, others not so sure.

Any further advice or information regarding different makes most welcome

Cheers

I've been using an EBC disc for the last 15K and is wearing mich better than the OEM item. Also at £60 compared to £145 for the OEM its a no brainer.

Out of interest, how many mile have you done. I've done 18,000 on mine and BMW say it needs replacing even though it's hardly worn.

EBC. Used on other bikes and give better feel and control than, for instance Honda OEM. Excellent price. Good wear characteristics too.

I got a goodwill replacement at 18k on the rear disc.

Have you asked Steptoe? (gsshop.co.uk) Pretty sure he can sort you out a disc, for a reasonable amount.

EBC on the other hand are pukka,:thumb2 never had any probs with em and in fact I have EBC pads fitted (on the bike of course!):D

Just got a Galfer wavy rear disk for my 1200. £105 delivered from Nippy Normans.

Haven't fitted it yet as my bike only arrived from Australia yesterday so straight out of the shipping crate and off to the MOT test. I'll change the disk when I have more time as the house is full of boxes to unpack etc.

I went for a Wavy disk due to the price of the BWM item plus they are alleged to resist warping due to the wave design.

My bike has done 34k and the rear disk is badly worn and is warped causing brake judder, after using 2 sets of replacement rear pads compared to the originals hardly worn on the front. Front disks are like new though. I'm a smooth rider and don't brake much, I suspect the linked brakes apply more rear than necessary, I only cover the rear brake for slow control or when stopped .

Thanks for the replies guys. I reckon it's an EBC for me.

Jonnie Boy: not tried Steppers but searching through a thread or two he was still looking for a pattern for the 1200 rear as far as I could tell.

Desert Rat: it's done around 50k. I'm amazed if yours if stuffed after only 18k unless you've had some strange pads in there. I'd expect to be looking at fitting the third set of rear pads at 18k if you'd been using OEM . Worth getting the disk thickness checked by someone with a micrometer and comparing it to the spec'?

I've used pads EBC mostly, seem to last a bit longer

Cheers

I have just had my rear disc repeplaced after 18K, had a set of new pads after 6K. It was suggested that riding in London traffic causes excessive wear.

To be fair Ive also done several long european trips alps etc and the scottish highlands.

Anybody else had same problems with this much mileage/city riding or is this normal.

Sorry just did a better search and found all the answers I needed.

Still costs a lot of money to replace with what maybe sub standard parts. [disc and pads?]
