I think I'm going to take the plunge and fit a low seat.

Sargent look nice, so before I wade in was looking to see whether anyone had anything negative to say? Or suggest other options that should be considered?

TIA

Rich

If you do take the plunge, do not despair that you feel like you have just made a very expensive mistake.

I did, but after 2,000 miles either it or my arse has adapted and it is now definitely much better than OE. The longer you can bear to stay on it at a single sitting, the quicker it seems to "settle in".

Had one for the 1150 and it was very comfy, much better than the stock seat or Wunderlich.

Just got one for the 1200, early days but seems better already.

Sargent

I acquired one without trying it first and was not as impressed as I expected to be.

It is better than the orginal, that had me sliding to the front on the very narrow part, but I expected it to be even wider and fuller fitting at the front than it actually is.

So, it's better. And I hope it gets even better with time as some others suggest.

I am in a similar situation. not sure to buy Sargent or Touratech low seat. Both are shaped differently to the OE one.

there's a place in christchurch that have sort of copied my sargent on pikey dave's OEM base. he's actually had them change the design slightly, so it's not quite the same but there seems no reason they couldn't do a reasonable clone. the actual bases appear identical apart from a special moulding on the base for the sargent logo.

£95 including a new foam top layer & fitting a supplied heated element is a bit cheaper than sargent too.

I bought a Sargent front and rear for my 1150 Rockster (I had a year away from a GS). Had never changed a seat before but the standard seat allowed me to do 50 mile days!! I had to do something.

I did a lot of research and went to the BMW Natioanl Rally here in the US and tried out most of the manufacturers all on the same day.

I painfully parted with a load of cash (I hate doing that, especially when the bike alrady came with a seat:augie) BUT - it transformed the ride - it supported me in all the right places and I was then able to do 500 mile days.

Being able to compare various manufactrers at once was a good oppurtunity - I am sorry to say this but some of the seats do look either stupid or mickey mouse! I know I am not looking at the seat when riding but to me the seat has to look part of the bike.

Anyway, I thought the Sargent felt the best and looked the best. I was also impressed that they make their own bases so there is none of that.....you mail us your seat and we'll send you ours........

Conclusion - Sargent worked for me (albeit on a different bike). Only slight hesitation was that their own base rubbed a bit of paint where the front part of the seat touched the fuel tank. But you couldn't see this wear with the seat on.

I have a pair

Having tried both Wunderlich low ergo and TT Kahedo extra low with limited comfort I took the plunge and bought a Pair of Sargents for my 1200GSA, The riders seat being the low option.
It's not quite as low as the other two but I genuinely think it's abour 35-40 times more comfortable. The quality is far superior too.

Go for it, you won't regret it!:thumb2

Thanks all for your really useful comments!!!

I'll be placing my order tomorrow :)

I've got a Sergeant on mine; it is long distance comfortable and supports me in all the right areas. The only negative is the wife complains that the pillion seat seems to be higher at the back and as a result pitches her forward thereby putting more weight and pressure on her legs.

I have one on my 12, you can come and try it if you wish. Wider flatter better.
Lyn. Only up the A55 from you.

I tried the Sargent seat on the 12GS that was sitting on the Metal Mule stand. I'm really considering buying one if I decide to keep the 12 for another year (tempted by the 800GS :blast ). Initally, it did seem just 'nicer' to sit on.

Thanks for all the advice and offers of a 'sit' LOL... very kind!!

Anyway.. took the plunge today and ordered from Nippy N so should be hear for the weekend..

Cheers all

Rich

Sargent from NN

fitted my standard sargent on tuesday, initially it feels rock hard to the touch, but a quick ride shows that it is way more comfortable than the OE seat.:clap:clap:clap

I guess it will bed in with time and form to the shape of my butt.

It is nicely shaped and a bit wider and gives me much better support.:thumb2

If you order your Sargent in the States, you get far more choice on how it's finished. I'd like to have no welt at all, but that option isn't available. I think it worked out aropund £205, but then there's the postage and the dreaded customs to look out for. So I guess there's just settling for what is available here to avoid any agro.

Just bought a pair for the 1200 - at the price they are I hope they are bloody comfy, but its only money after all......
