Hi all,

Just need advice as to a Yamaha XT660Z Tenere, has anyone here got one and what do they think of them as an all rounder/touring capability/touring comfort/fuel range/handling etc..????

i don't, but the yamaha dealership has one down the road that isn't quite built up yet and PDI'd, but I think I'll take a run when it is. I think they're very sexy and if I didn't have an 800GS I'd be sorely tempted. Been eyeing them up for a while now. And I too am a mac user, so maybe it's something in the aesthetics???

Dead

I spoke with a dealer that has one and when i asked him what he thought of it his response was that it was dead in terms of power. I was a bit surprised but he insisted it was one of the worst bikes he had ridden. He compared it to a honda 50:eek:

Had a go on my Neighbours the other day,Nice quick enough ,a high seat which you kick as you get on ,seemed well made, noisy off road tyres though.Comfortable for me 6'6" and nice cockpit if minimalist.Easier off road than a GS give it a try!:thumb2

Thanks for replies,

I presently own a year old V-Strom DL 1000 GT, just wondering what the slightly smaller/more agile (?) Yamaha 660 Tenere could do, anything better than my V-Strom...?

not going be as fast as some road bikes as this a dual purpose bike,

know 1 or 2 lads have them and they find them great, and fast as well

Get yourself over to XT660.com if you havent already, its got a growing population of Teneres on there. I've just got myself one after being out of the big trailie market for a few years and for a big single its great. Not KTM640 fast but less vibes (cant comment on the 690). The seat height can be a challenge but a quick butt cheek shuffle usually sees me ok with my 31" inside leg. For higher speed use there can be some head buffeting with air turbulance coming up the fork legs under the headlamp but there are posted solutions for that. Ps my previous big trailie CV was GS1150A, KTM640 and KTM950A and for road and offroad use it sits for me between the two KTMs.

if had the cash i would go for the ktm690, but to make it similar to the tenere you would have get larger tank, fairing etc.

but would end up with better bike.

tenere is not designed for break neck speeds and brisk accl like the ktms, but it is built to last and it will last through the years with greater reliability.

Yamaha tenere

Ihave just bought one in power blue 09 and its my second xt660z and they ride very well and handle great .If your out down the lanes you will be suprised at the handling and you can catch sports bike it you get your timming right . They are great on/ off road and for what you can buy one for they do the job . I have fitted lowering links to the rear and what a difference (29ins leg ) So go buy one you will love it . Regards neil4022:comfort

i had one for a short time did 3500 miles on it in 3 months it was great off road and it was great on road , yes it wouldnt win any races about 105 -110 ish flat out but boy did it look good , mind the seat is a killer anything more than 100 miles and you will know about it, cheap to run easy 70 mpg and cheap to insure
