Hi All,
Does anyone have experience or knowledge in the use of the new breed of so called smart riding units which go into the BMW nav cradle and enable use of apple Car Play and Android Auto, including integration with the whizz wheel/thumb wheel ?
Any advice sought on reliability of hardware, software, connectivity, ease of use, functionality etc.
From what I gather the following two are commonly used, but any recommendations very welcome.

Many thanks

Not got or used one but loads on YouTube about them.
Seems the Chigee 5 for BMW is well regarded but then it’s one of the pricier ones too.
Don’t know if you’ve seen this?

If you get it through A BIKE THING he’s got a longer warranty arrangement if I recall.

Carpuride does not have Wonderwheel control.

I am in possession of both at the moment.

Chigee is a higher quality product..the build quality is fantastic...and it benefits from the data feed from the bike and wonderwheel functionality.

Carpuride does what it does, perfectly well....and the 7" version is fantastic..if the b'auld mince pies are past there best.

Just wanted to point out that the 2 year “specially negotiated” warranty is just a marketing strategy, EVERY unit purchased from a UK official seller gives it not just certain companies.

@GSite if you have not used carplay or android-auto before the apps are not the same as the apps on your phone, they may have the same functionality but serve a specific purpose like google maps on an iphone & on android, same app but for different purposes.

I have had the Chigee play for BMW since first released & i would of liked the screen bigger as a 5” screen is a little small in my opinion, yes it has the wheel functionality but it takes so much longer than just pressing the touch screen, for example you may need to press the wheel 10 times to do one function that 2 presses on the screen can do.

Didnt know that. (y)

seen the video in the first post of this thread?

chap gives pros and cons of the different types of system

in summary, he seems to prefer a device that has its own, internal, GPS transceiver. Relying on a phone to do all the donkey work has a number of potential challenges. They are very expensive in comparison though.
