Which motorcycle nav system ?

I’ve been swaying towards the AIO thingy recently…seen a few videos and it seems to be up around the top of the tree.

It’s very good . But I’ve got an Aioocci coming for my Voge.
I paid £225 ish with discount for the 5” AIO Play and the Aioocci is 6” and it was £136 with a discount code and that includes TPMS and cameras plus a handle bar remote. The AIO 5 with cameras but without TPMS retails at £457!!
The Aioocci gets good reviews from the likes of Richy Vida who has used one all year on his Vstrom including four Picos tours.

At one time you either went Garmin or TomTom, these days the options seem endless!
I am happy with my Nav6 although it did go through the ghosting issues a a couple of years ago. touch wood its not done it since.

i don't use my phone as i need glasses for reading and i cant read my phone on the bike.
Also anyone who has used their phone for navigating will know that if you forget to download offline maps you will end up lost.
which is why i am not tempted by these android auto versions.

For that reason i will stick with my Garmin, other than a few quirks it does what it's designed for with the least pre planning, just click and go.
unless of course the ghosting returns... then it will get thrown over an hedge in the North of England somewhere 🤣

I’m still using my TomTom Rider 5 that I’ve had for 10 years

I’ve looked at the 500/550 series but from what I’ve seen they don’t actually work as well as the older model

I’d be interested in an Android Auto device but I find the current offerings expensive considering what they actually do

The phone and app are doing all the work

Ahh, I was under the impression that the nav 6 was the same as the 660. It’s the nav 5 that’s the same.
It does seem to be a recurring theme that the new model has more problems than the one it replaces. I’ll hang on to my old 660 I think. It just works.
Nav5 was peak BMW satnav…

I think that the main take from the BRM video and the discussion on here is that there is something for everyone. I have a 2020 Honda Africa twin with an Android auto/apple carplay screen built into the bikes cockpit which will display lots of info about the bike or AA/CP apps from your phone if you connect it to the provided USB port. You can control the (AA in my case) screen with the myriad buttons on the left hand switch block. I also have a Zumo XT mounted above the screen which i tend to use as my primary navigation device even though I disliked it when I got it at first because it has two foibles (fastest time routing logic and repeated u turn requests) that need to be accommodated in your route planning and use of the unit. However, its fast on start up and acquiring the route this means that there is less faff for me if I am navigating for a group which I often do. I also use MRA and Basecamp for route planning and handling POI's. MRA is easier for bespoke routes on tour as for me all I use is my phone and a paper map of the area. Basecamp along with the zumo XT are better at handling POI's. For me for route planning on a PC I'm happy to use either MRA or Basecamp but I sync my MRA route Library with my Phone and can add these to the zumo via Garmin Drive or use them directly via AA on the Africa Twin screen. The Latest iteration of the MRA navigation app works very well as I was testing it Yesterday. Until yesterday I would have recommended that you should use the MRA navigation app directly on your phone/second phone or a tablet device. Sometimes testing the options is ridiculous. :D

Google maps is great for direct routes as the traffic routing is second to none. Also if you have a bluetooth headset and mic you can use voice navigation as in Hey google route me to ??????????. Works great as it uses your google account voice model.

I also like OSMand on AA........but if you think Basecamp has a steep learning curve

Spot on.

As with gloves, everyman and his dog will have their favourite. In some cases, this will go right back to the Garmin StreetPilot 1; “If it was good enough for me then, it’s good enough for me now. The roads I ride don’t change”.

Contact Garmin. They will swap your old model for a new one, no questions asked.

The map displays on phones use very little data, you might as well use it live. That said, it’s not hard to download maps into a phone.

Carrying out the action suggested in sentence one, will save you inevitably throwing the device over a hedge….. only to then wish you’d had your phone to navigate you to Tesco.

can vouch for that. Mine was fine when bought in 2021. Last year was a nightmare. Ghosting all the time and a royal pain. Called Garmin yesterday and its on its way back to them as we speak. No questions asked just pop it in the post and they´ll send you a new one. Great service but clearly means they are fully aware of the duds that went out to shops in their 1000´s

I just heard of another case of that yesterday.
No questions asked. Return for replacement.
